Josh Earnest said during today’s White House Briefing that President Obama will, once again, not be tuning in to watch tomorrow’s Republican debate.
“I guess ’cause he feels like he’s got better things to do,” Earnest said. “With all due respect to CNN.”
Earnest also fielded questions about how Obama can describe himself as a “keenly interested observer,” when this will be the second time he has opted out of watching them live. To this, Earnest stated that Obama still follows the 2016 race on a regular basis, and that he is “invested” in seeing which values and priorities his successor will focus on.
“The president understands that elections have consequences,” Earnest said, “and that the kinds of discussions about the future of the country are critically important as Americans decide the next person who should sit in the Oval Office.”
