Fox News Reporter on Mattis Retirement: ‘Morale Has Never Been Lower’ at Pentagon

Fox News correspondent Jennifer Griffin is painting a bleak picture of what is happening over at the Pentagon, amid the sudden resignation of Defense Secretary James Mattis late Thursday afternoon.

Appearing on The Five, Griffin reported that spirits at the Pentagon aren’t exactly high following President Donald Trump‘s announcement that the U.S. will withdraw troops from Syria — a move that Mattis was said to have been very much at odds with.

“That is something that Mattis opposed,” Griffin said of the troop pullout. “It is something that all of the top leaders here in the Pentagon, as well as U.S. Central command generals opposed.”

And the fact that the move is being carried out despite all of that dissent apparently has very few at the Pentagon feeling upbeat.

“I was told by a very well-placed source here in the Pentagon that morale has never been lower at meetings here at the Pentagon of the top brass in the last few days to discuss the pullout of troops from Syria,” Griffin said.
