George H. W. Bush: ‘Not Sure I Would Have Been President’ Without Roger Ailes

Plenty of people have spent the day memorializing Roger Ailes in the few hours since his death was announced.

Some have even been crediting him with getting them their first — or best — jobs in media! That’s nothing, however, compared to what our 41st president, George H. W. Bush credited him with earlier today.

Yeah, you read that right. The Republican and remarkably infrequent tweeter brushed off the dusty ol’ microblogging app to say he wasn’t “sure” he would have ever even been president if not for Ailes.

Ailes, of course, shaped the landscape of conservative media, and thus, American media, But Bush should probably offer a greater debt to his hapless 1988 Democratic competitor, Michael Dukakis.
