In the midst of 11 police officers in Dallas being shot at a protest held partially in memory of Philando Castile, authorities released the name of the officer who shot Castile during a traffic stop last Wednesday.
His name is Jeronimo Yanez. The partner with him was Joseph Kauser. Both had been with the St. Anthony Police Department for four years.

The timing might seem a little off, given that it was Yanez’s actions that sparked a portion of the protest that ended in gunfire and death tonight in Texas. (The recent death of Alton Sterling by police was also a factor.) Yanez’s name isn’t even trending on Twitter right now, though, as the main news is now all about Dallas.
