Scarborough Shreds Pence and DHS Sec Nielsen For Lying About Border to Justify Government Shutdown

The claim from Vice President Mike Pence, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, and others from President Donald Trump was that 10 terrorists per day were being picked up by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) at the Southern border. We now know, thanks to an NBC News report compiled from CBP data, that the real number was six in the entire first half of 2018.

Tuesday on Morning Joe, host Joe Scarborough absolutely went to town on the vice president, Nielsen, and other Trump administration figures who peddled what turned out to be a massively inflated number.

“Mike Pence, the vice president of the United States, lying to the American people again,” Scarborough said. He added, “You have the head of the department of homeland security lying about thousands. You have the president of the United States lying about thousands. You have Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the president’s spokesperson, lying about it.

“Incredible,” co-host Mika Brzezinski said.

“And they’re all doing this!” Scarborough said. “Lying about a crisis on the southern border, just like they lied about the caravans, just like they’re lying about the gang members flooding across the Southern border. All to justify this government shutdown, and all to justify the president going on tonight, making up an emergency?!”

“Ugh!” Brzezinski said.

“So he can build his wall along the southern border?!” Scarborough said. “It’s outrageous.”
