Shep Smith to Democratic Sen.: Is There ‘Hard Proof’ Trump Aides Had Illegal Contact with Russia?

Fox’s Shepard Smith spoke with Senator Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, and asked him this afternoon, “Does the intel community have any hard proof that the Trump campaign members or Mike Flynn had any improper or illegal contacts with the Russian government?”

Reports out last night from The New York Times and CNN say that Trump campaign aides were in contact with Russian intel officials before the election, but the reporting contains caveats about what is and isn’t known about their communication.

Smith repeatedly asked Warner if there’s evidence of illegal contact. Warner pointed to Flynn changing his story and said they need to investigate the matter, adding that they’ve requested briefings but haven’t received any on the call between Flynn and the Russian ambassador.

Warner also took a shot at people questioning the work of the intel community (of which President Trump has been a part), calling it “a little insulting.”
