President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama delivered their final White House Christmas address in a video out this morning.
The Obamas sat and reminisced about Christmases past, all the way back to their first Christmas address and how, as the First Lady put it, “Barack needed all the help he could get” with these.
She said it’s been a “true privilege” to be able to celebrate Christmas in the White House with so many guests, so many cookies, and perhaps too many holiday “dad jokes” from the president.
The president conceded, “A few got a frosty reception.”
He went on to talk about America’s standing in the world 8 years later, the message of “compassion and hope” around this time of year, and said, “No one better embodies that spirit of service than the men and women who wear our country’s uniform and their families.”
The president concluded, “Let’s resolve to recommit ourselves to the values we share, and on behalf of all the Obamas––Michelle, Malia, Sasha, Bo, and that troublemaker Sunny––Merry Christmas, everybody.”
