WATCH LIVE: Trump Holds Thanksgiving Turkey Pardon Ceremony at the White House
It’s Thanksgiving week in the United States, so you know what that means: time for the annual White House Turkey Pardon.
President Trump will hold a ceremony today where he’ll decide whether Peas or Carrots (yes, those are the turkeys’ names) will receive clemency from dinner feasts around the country this year. There’s no telling yet on which bird will receive amnesty, though the White House’s Twitter feed might give some indication down the line.
Which turkey should be pardoned during the National Thanksgiving Turkey Pardoning Ceremony?
After the pardoning, Peas and Carrots will live at Virginia Tech’s “Gobblers Rest” exhibit.

The whimsical tradition dates back 71 years, even though it wasn’t actually formalized until George H.W. Bush made it so in 1989. What it is is basically the National Turkey Federation brings two birds to Washington D.C., where they get to enjoy a stay at the upscale Willard Hotel before being presented before the sitting president.
Trump isn’t particularly known for being light-handed with these kinds of events, though it’s possible he’ll offer some remarks about thankfulness for the nation before the pardoning. Whether the honor goes to Peas or Carrots, both of them will be sent afterwards to “Gobbler’s Rest” at Virginia Tech, where they’ll live the rest of their days with the other pardoned turkeys of Thanksgiving Past.
