Bill Maher on Ilhan Omar’s Tweets: ‘I Don’t Know Why This Has to Be Seen as Anti-Semitic’

Bill Maher tonight offered a defense of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar Friday night on her tweets about Israel and AIPAC, asking why they’re considered anti-Semitic.

Omar’s tweets were condemned by Democratic leaders for perpetuating anti-Semitic stereotypes and she put out this statement Monday:

There have been some calls, including from Vice President Mike Pence, for her to lose her committee assignments.

Tonight Maher said this about her tweets:

“She was talking about the Jewish lobby AIPAC and said, ‘It’s all about the Benjamins.’ Now, I probably don’t agree with her a lot about what she feels about Israel and Palestine, but I don’t know why this has to be seen as anti-Semitic. Now, she may be anti-Semitic, but if I criticize Saudi Arabia, that doesn’t mean I’m [an] Islamophobe.”

“It depends how,” David Frum said. “There are things you could say about Saudi Arabia that would make people raise their eyebrows a little bit.”
