Colbert on Trump: If He’s Not Working With the Russians, ‘What the Hell is Wrong With Him?’
In his first show after Attorney General William Barr released the summary report of Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s findings, Stephen Colbert had a few words for President Donald Trump.
Colbert started off by noting that he had a good weekend but “not as good as Donald Trump’s.” He then shared what he dubbed “troubling” news.
“Our president is not a Russian asset,” he said.
He then added, “I say ‘troubling news’ because if Trump is not working with the Russians, then what the hell is wrong with him? If they don’t have anything on him then why does he keep saying nice things about Vladimir Putin?”
“What about the smoke monster, was it real or not?” Colbert continued on, comparing the Mueller report ending to the ending of Lost. “And if not, why have so many members of Trump’s campaign plead guilty to lying about meeting with the smoke monster?”
Colbert then suggested that even an ending like Seinfeld‘s finale would have been better.
“Still disappointing, but at least they’re all in jail!” the Late Show host quipped.
Finally, noting the calls from Trump supporters for the president’s critics to apologize, Colbert offered this faux-apology directly to Trump: “Mr. President, if you’re watching, and I know you are… I’m sorry that you’re a terrible president.”
