Former National Enquirer Editor Steve Coz Moves To Newsmax

Right-leaning magazine Newsmax has been able to accomplish something quite rare in its industry these days: it has grown by double digits in the past few years. And with that growth came need for a new editorial director. Enter Steve Coz, formerly of American Media (which owns The National Enquirer and Star, among other magazines) and current head of consulting firm Coz Media.

The New York Post‘s Media Ink column breaks down Newsmax‘s growth by the numbers:

Chief Christopher Ruddy said the company hit revenue of $51 million in 2010, up 50 percent from $34 million a year earlier. He wouldn’t disclose actual profits or losses, but said the company has been profitable on an annual basis since 2002, and that it made money again in 2010.

Coz will oversee Newsmax Media’s online and print publications, placing emphasis on the magazine’s 60+ readers – an important segment among media consumers given, as Ruddy points out, that it is projected to grow by 50 percent within the next decade.

Under Coz, the news magazine will continue steering “a moderate Republican course” for its right-leaning readers.

Newsmax puts in place an editor that used to oversee publications that fabricate news? No way!

The editor from Weekly World News just renegotiated his contract so he wasn’t available.

Newsmax is “right leaning” in the same way that Daily Kos is “left leaning.”

He used to work at the New York Times? I didn’t know that. Thanks for the heads up, I must read Newsmax with a grain of salt now.

The next and final logical career step is, of course, World Net Daily.

You might as well have just typed “I’M AN IDIOT!!!” You read everything you read with a whole shaker of crazy conservative salt as is, if you believe that having worked at the NYT makes a Newsmax writer less credible. I mean, just wow.

Yes, but a Pulitzer nominated publication that fabricates news! I can’t wait ’til it turns out that Batboy also had a child with Rielle Hunter.

As Alex points out, let’s remember it was the Nat. Enq. who broke the John Edwards story much MUCH earlier than any mainstream publication.

makes sense NewsMax=National Enquirer I am sure we can look forward to the Jerome Corsi 5 part expose on how Obama is a secret Kenyan Madrassa Vampire that sleeps in a coffin in the Lincoln bedroom, and 63 percent of all “conservatives” will believe it cause they dum.

Virtually all of which willfully and purposefully ignored the story until the Enquirer caught him (and photographed him) red-peckered and trying to hide in the bathroom. Meanwhile, the vaunted New York Times was smearing John McCain with the flimsiest of allegations on its front page.

Oh, did Newsmax hire Corsi too? News to me, and probably to both Newsmax and Corsi.

It would seem this individual would be better placed at Fox Network.

Let’s make sure we stay alert to ANY and ALL journalists who begin working for anything that resembles a Right Opinion. Oh, oh…what about that Huff & Puff who is now working for Glenn Beck’s website Blaze? Get her name…..refer her to Fox news….wow…we have to be careful….they are infiltrating our Leftie system !!!
    (she said sarcastically).

Nice trick if you could do it.

And you’d think a “patriotic” publication such as Newsmax would know that the correct way to display the flag vertically is with the stars at the top left…

  • The Tea Weasel

This looks to be a perfect fit.
