NY Post: Palin Grosses Six Figures For In Touch Cover

In 2008, Governor Sarah Palin brought in $125,000 (not counting a clothes allowance from some friends). Last year, presumably about half of that.

This year, she could be on track for a whole lot more. For example, if she can keep landing cushy deals like her current cover photo for In Touch Magazine, which Page Six reports grossed her a flat $100,000. And we’re only halfway through January! From the Post:

Sarah Palin and her daughter, Bristol, earned an eye-popping $100,000 for their new In Touch Weekly cover, sources say. For just eight hours’ work at her own home, Palin pocketed nearly as much as her $125,000-a-year salary as Alaska governor. It seems her decision to quit her political role is making big financial sense.

The In Touch article deals with her decision to see son Trig to term, despite his Downs Syndrome. (Liberals, don’t forget: this is why we hate her, according to the National Review.) Also covered: Bristol Palin is back on the dating scene, but says she is a “born-again virgin.” So fellas, if you’re looking for a single mother who isn’t going to have sex and who shares half her genes with Sarah Palin, line forms to the right.

With payouts like this — and let’s not forget her multi-year deal as a Fox News analyst! — it’s hard to imagine what would inspire Sarah Palin to re-enter public service, what with all of its “real responsibilities”. Having your picture taken for six figures is so much more appealing.

So, is she the first former politician to land a tv gig, or get paid for a magazine interview? What does INtouch magazine pay for Brad & Angelina, or John & Kate interviews????

Again with the misleading headline, she wasn’t paid for the pic, she was paid for the interview. Why do you guys always do that?

And filling in for Glynnocchio MacNicol is … Philip Bump. Whoa, Phil — we just asked you to write like Glynnis, not dress like her. Go change!

But seriously, Phil … it shouldn’t be hard for you to figure this out. Why is it worth it for In Touch to put Palin on the cover? Let me give you some time.

OK, time’s up. Because she’s already sold more than a million copies of her memoir. It was the NYT and Amazon bestseller for weeks on end. InTouch knows it’s going to get its $100K back and more by putting Palin on the cover as opposed to another Brangelina rumor the other three celeb weeklies are doing.

And if you knew really knew your stuff about Palin, you would know that a key part of her decision to resign as Governor of Alaska was the fact that bogus “ethics complaints” were bankrupting her family despite the fact she was cleared in EVERY SINGLE CASE. The advance for Going Rogue wasn’t all gravy — she had legal bills of over $500,000 and counting because of liberal slimebags with free time and a heart full of hate.

So now, she’s making money. And you can’t stand it. Maybe the cheap shots help ease the pain for you. But you should know that it makes you seem pathetic.

shootfromthehip, you must not have any daughters. Or women in your life that you respect.

The vulgarity of the comments from shootfromthehip tells you why people rally behind Sarah Palin. This kind of garbage doesn’t belong in any discussion of social and political issues. And as for people who peddle this slime, they are the ones that come out stinking.

Palin’s appearance in this magazine represents the only time she’s ever been “In Touch.” For clueless, check Palin at the door. From geography to history to government to founding fathers to foreign relations – she’s proved there’s no ‘there’ there, even on the friendly turf of Fox Not News Channel. Palin is a side show and Fox just bought themselves the political version of Conan O’Brien.

  • http://www.pbump.net Philip Bump

Apparently, this needs clarification – I am aware that Ms. Palin presumably made more than $63,000 last year, given her book and speaking engagements. That was a joke. Feel free to comment on the quality of the joke, as desired.

Really? OK, you asked for it. Your writing is of very low quality, Phil.

shoot’s vile remarks about Sarah & Bristol aren’t even close to what was in the Wonkette link Mr. Bump included. It starts with “We at Wonkette don’t think Sarah Palin is worth two s—s to decorate her grave…” and gets worse.

  • Snipzor

Indeed, Wonkette was totally meant to be taken seriously in that statement, the one I will quote.

“We at Wonkette don’t think Sarah Palin is worth two shits to decorate her grave… but then again we had 19 hilarious abortions just this morning so maybe there is a connection…??”

Dear god, 19 abortions? How deplorable! Either that or Smithee has taken things far too literally. While being a total hypocrite, I seem to remember that same person referring to a staff member as a whore, and another as a cross dresser (Excellent insults, worthy of praise from your ilk). But how does it get worse? Joke about how they are supposedly eating fetuses? How dare they! It’s not like they are mocking the image that Pro-Life people associate with Pro-Choice.

  • sarainitaly

“Liberals, don’t forget: this is why we hate her”

    at least you admit you’re a liberal…

How much was Obama paid for his People interviews and covers? Or Michelle for her People cover? Or their multiple covers on INTouch, Or Rolling Stone, or Time, or Newsweek, or Ebony, or Washingtonian, or Oprah’s O Magazine, or Black Enterprise, or Weekly Standard, or Us Magazine, Esquire, or Tiger Beat, or Fast Company or Vanity Fair, The Economist, or US News, or Vogue Men’s, or Vibe, or GQ, Atlantic or The New Republic, Essence, New York Times Magazine, Prevention, Glamour, Jet, or OK?

Honestly I am surprised they have time to do anything else, with all the covers and interviews they have given.

  • Snipzor

Sarah, why did you crop the quote?

“Liberals, don’t forget: this is why we hate her, according to the National Review.”

It’s on the same freaking page, do you really expect people to not look at the full quote for the context?! Aside from that bit of unbelievable intellectual dishonesty, it seems as if you’ve missed the point of why she is being a hypocrite. I’ll explain it to the best of my abilities (Which are not as good as they should be, thank you psychological disorders).

The difference between Obama getting paid and Sarah Palin being paid for magazine covers is simple. One of the two does not claim to be of “Middle America”. It is hypocritical of Sarah Palin to claim she is of the common man while she is pulling in occasional 6 figure incomes. So the point that you made but never capitalized on is invalid.

  • Snipzor

Did I put an ‘h’ in your name by accident? Sorry, I wish I could edit that out.

  • sarainitaly

Because my point wasn’t about *hating her*, it was about being a liberal, hence my comment: at least you admit you’re a liberal. (because there always seem to be discussions online about the media being liberal or not…and here we have an self admitted case.)

I knew what point he was making about the National Review article – it was an article that the left hates Palin because she didn’t have an abortion. My select editing was because he wrote, ” liberals, don’t forget, this is why WE….”

“It’s on the same freaking page, do you really expect people to not look at the full quote for the context?! ”

No, and If you would tone down your hysterics and hatred for a moment you might have realized that.

“The difference between Obama getting paid and Sarah Palin being paid for magazine covers is simple. One of the two does not claim to be of “Middle America”. It is hypocritical of Sarah Palin to claim she is of the common man while she is pulling in occasional 6 figure incomes. So the point that you made but never capitalized on is invalid.”

LOL!!!! She became governor, and earned a 6 figure salary for three years…. wow, that really kicks her ass out of the middle class America status. LOL!! Especially since she was earning $125,000 and has five kids. I bet her nickname is Rockefeller. hahaha So, because she considers herself middle class, she can never ever earn a better salary?

I guess Obama, earning a salary in the millions through his books, and magazine covers, really makes Obama hypocritical that he claims he was a poor black child raised by a single mother living on food stamps? Your comments are hysterical.

The point on the article was to, yet again, mock Palin, “With payouts like this — and let’s not forget her multi-year deal as a Fox News analyst! — it’s hard to imagine what would inspire Sarah Palin to re-enter public service, what with all of its “real responsibilities”. Having your picture taken for six figures is so much more appealing.”

  • sarainitaly

we know liberals hate her, it doesn’t matter the reason.

  • Snipzor

Even the “we” in the statement is incredibly sarcastic, I can’t even believe you would miss that while cropping the quote for the second time. It is completely irrelevant that the author stated he was a liberal because in the end he was criticizing NRO’s use of a blanket statement to describe every person who disagrees with Sarah Palin as a liberal. It doesn’t matter how you crop the quote, the context is still missing as well as your intellectual honesty.

It is obvious you also do not understand what Sarah Palin’s assets are, and it is clear you are unaware of her new position as a Fox News contributor/talking head. Do you honestly believe she can relate to the Middle Class if her income at least doubles that of the average middle class income? Especially considering her own assets? I doubt the average middle class American has had a private jet at any point.

Also you need to learn what hypocrisy is (And class identity). Obama does have quite the income, but at the same time he hardly makes the claim that he is part of the working class. Stating that he and his family were on food stamps only points out that he was at that stage at one point in his life, there is nothing hypocritical about that.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I must be off for work.

  • RazorsEdge

    Snipzor:

Don’t forget Pres. Obama more “of” middle America than Palin. Palin/Idaho/Alaska (West)
Pres. Obama / Hawaii/Chicago (Chicago Middle America). Obama moved there since 1985. You hear Pres. Obama talking about his community organizing days quite often in Chicago. Helping the poor.

In fact in Obama’s book he speaks of knowing that he needed to leave to educate himself more (Harvard) to be able to go back to Chicago and help poor middle Americans more with the education he earned, where he grew up as young man.

In his Election night speech: (In Chicago – Middle America by the way)

“I was never the likeliest candidate for this office. We didn’t start with much money or many endorsements. Our campaign was NOT hatched in the halls of Washington – it began in the backyards of Des Moines (middle America) and the living rooms of Concord and the front porches of Charleston.”

“It was built by working men and women who dug into what little savings they had to give five dollars and ten dollars and twenty dollars to this cause.”

“Let us remember that if this financial crisis taught us anything, it’s that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while MAIN Street suffers – in this country, we rise or fall as one nation; as one people.”

“And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn – I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too.”

    Speech

Nothing wrong with Pes Obama or Palin to earn 6 figure incomes. It’s OK for people and even politicains to earn as much as they can to financially secure their families. If you don’t want to accept offers that pays you 6 figures to for your family’s financial security, that’s OK too.

  • sarainitaly

I accidently hit submit, but I didn’t include the link for: we know liberals hate her, it doesn’t matter the reason.

But, since you brought it up, some of the reasons for that National Review article:

A leading Democratic Party activist is making waves across the country with an offensive remark about vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin. South Carolina Democratic Chairwoman Carol Fowler, whose husband formerly led the national party, said Palin’s only qualification is she didn’t have an abortion.

In the Alaska governor, Fowler said McCain had chosen a running mate “whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.”

Like many, I am troubled by the implications of Alaska governor and Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s decision to knowingly give birth to a child disabled with Down syndrome. Given that Palin’s decision is being celebrated in some quarters, it is crucial to reaffirm the morality of aborting a fetus diagnosed with Down syndrome (or by extension, any unborn fetus)—a freedom that anti-abortion advocates seek to deny.”

Photoshopping Trig: The Left’s Latest Descent Into Depravity

In addition to keeping Trig up all hours of the night so that she can parade him around a stage after a pitiful debate performance or speech, she’s decided to use baby Trig to get some lusty applause out of the audience, because, let’s face it, there’s nothing evangelical Christians love more than a developmentally disabled baby they can use to their own end.”

That’s right. Palin is about to embark on a career of causing babies to be born retarded. Down Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, crack addiction, or a good old-fashioned kick to the pregnant tummy, it doesn’t matter to Palin. She wants the world to have more Trigs.”

Like Legal Insurrection posted at Hot Air said, “If Sarah Palin had aborted Trig, the left would have been okay with it. If she hid Trig offstage and out of sight, all would be good. But treat the child as you would any other child, and that cannot be tolerated.
There is something about a Down syndrome child in plain view which has exposed the moral and emotional bankruptcy of the left-wing of the Democratic party. And they hate Sarah Palin because deep down, they hate themselves for being who they are.”

Ummm…yes. Sarah Palin grew up middle class. Just because she all of a sudden earns $100,000 doesn’t make her an elitist snob like Obama.

“but at the same time he hardly makes the claim that he is part of the working class” LOL! you are cracking me up! Does the term community organizer sound familiar?

If you were as smart as you think you are, you would know I didn’t call anyone a whore or a cross dresser. I said Philip Bump is a joke of a writer (still standing by that) and his assignment on the Palin bash du jour was to ape Glynnis MacNicol, who is part of that self-impressed we’re-so-hip Mediabistro/Gawker crowd that hates Sarah Palin like a fat kid loves cake. Re-read the post, Snippy, and note the key phrase, “But seriously, Phil…”

I certainly didn’t call anyone a whore because unlike shootfromthehip, I don’t call a woman a whore for the supposed crime of getting pregnant by the boy you mistakenly think will be your future husband OR having such low standards that they will have sex with guys like him. I save the word for when they fit the definition (Sydney Biddle Barrows, Heidi Fleiss, Divine Brown, Ashley Dupre, Steve Gobie — folks in Massachusetts need to read up on that guy).

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/19/fashion/19stylist.html

New York Times reported that Palin had nothing to do with the shopping spree so I think a correction is in order here or at least an update. I

It was a “trumped up controversy,” she writes. “I never asked the New York stylists to purchase clothes, many of the items were never worn, many others were intended for the use of other people, and in the end the wardrobe items were all returned. It certainly wasn’t true that I or my family had been on any kind of ‘big-time shopping trips.’

All true, Ms. Kline said this week. Her reticence so far, she said, was out of respect to a client. But now that Ms. Palin herself is discussing her unidentified “New York stylist,” Ms. Kline would like to clarify a few details, which she did first in an interview for the campaign biography “Sarah From Alaska” by Scott Conroy and Shushannah Walshe, published this month.

With less than 24 hours before the Palins’ national debut on the tarmac, it was decided that the luxury retailer Neiman Marcus, which has a store in Minneapolis, offered the best available selection for the circumstances. Arrangements were made for a private early-morning trip.

Neiman Marcus opened for Ms. Kline and her assistant at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, she said, and the two split up and spent a rushed 90 minutes or so gathering what they needed. Ms. Palin and her family were not there; nor was anyone from the campaign. Instead, the two stylists relied on a couple of salesclerks and a store manager.

“There was no conversation. There was no chitchat. It was just, ‘We need two pairs of pants in size yadada,’ ” Ms. Kline said. The purchases were rung up, but Ms. Kline was not asked for payment of any kind.

“Apparently it had been prearranged,” she said. (According to election filings, more than $130,000 of clothing charges from New York and Minneapolis was picked up by a Republican consultant, Jeff Larson, who was reimbursed by the Republican National Committee.)
