Exactly. The left is intellectually bankrupt. They have nothing else to do but to blame The Tea Party, Palin, etc.

In November’s ELECTION, they lost something like 400 years of Congressional experience and over 700 State seats. We don’t hear about this because the media covers for them. If the Republicans lost that much, the media would be going berserk at how they devastated the Right.

While I think Obama’s speech was very good, he was forced into it. If he was sincere, he would have tried to put a stop to the left wing haters right after the murders. Only after seeing that the Right was short-circuiting their efforts to pin the murders on the Right did Obama make a more normal Presidential speech.

I saw a jazz funeral while I was in grad school in New Orleans. It is a marching brass band followed by a horde of mourners, all solemn until they pass where the deceased had lived. Then the music gets lively and the mourners turn boisterous. It turns into a party. What a great memorial.

Clearly there is plenty of hateful things being said by posters on both sides. It’s hard to imagine them as functioning adults sometimes it’s so bad. Are we going to try and create some kind of haters scoreboard to tally who has the most hateful remarks, or are we going to try to improve the overall quality of political dialogue.

I’m going to mark this as a rare post in which we agree. I guess this venue is not the place to try and have any kind of meaningful conversation , but just a spot to vent , while we generate profit for the site.

Still, I think we can try to exchange ideas without being hateful , and in doing that, perhaps gain understanding of other perspectives. Being able to communicate with people from all over with different perspectives and different information could be a gift and a resource if we don’t squander it on childish bickering and name calling.

I came from another site that some basic ground rules about behavior and moderators and I learned a lot by engaging in discussions with people who knew what they were talking about and shared real information.
I’m not a fan of censorship of ideas but weeding out those on both sides that offer nothing but vitriol wouldn’t hurt, IMO.
As I’ve mentioned before, even though we rarely agree, I appreciate the civil tone of your posts.

I’m so sick of the political banter. This was a typical dose of Jon Stewart pointing out the ridiculousness of our political and media infused nation. Can you not just sit back, watch it and think “you know, that’s funny as hell,” without pointing fingers. Jon Stewart for President!!!!!!!!!!! He is actually the ONLY VOICE OF REASON in which I prefer to listen. I watched the memorial event and was touched profoundly. I was literally counting the minutes until the first criticism arrived. It sure didn’t take long. Even the parents of the deceased child were clapping and applauding the “so-called ‘pep rally” atmosphere.” So what if mostly college students were there and they cheered listening to an uplifting speech by THEIR PRESIDENT. Guess what, if our President would have appeared two weeks after the incident occurred, lots of folks would have complained that he didn’t care enough to even visit. Can’t win for losing in some folks eyes! Geez!

The best type of pundit has their views, right or left, but is able to call bullshit wherever they see it, right or left.

That’s what’s missing in political discourse.

Next chapter. Now you have a ever growing list of partisan hacks who are called on to fill not 30 minutes not an hour, but 24 hours of news. They each want to put their own partisan stamp on each new chapter of history. Walter Cronkite is rolling over in his grave . The coverage of this shooting was the singular death blow for American Journalistic respect, work ethic, and integrity. We don’t have a media anymore, we have way too many talkers talking into an ever expanding sea of white noise. The end of this nation can not be far behind when a network titled COMEDY Central becomes the shining example of Journalistic respect, work ethic, and integrity. I’m closer to moving to Canada then ever.

Obama had to give an obligatory speech and a call for unity to calm things down. The pundits, including Fox, had to support the call for unity and reinforced it with praise for the president’s oratory skills (stipulated to be great). It was a mediocre speech, having nothing notable other than correct names and events. Fox went along with it, in the name of unity, or because the president asked for it and they could not refuse. Their proclamations to its greatness, however, could probably listed as nice little white lies.

It can not be compared with Reagan’s moving words on the Challenger disaster, which was full of feeling and left viewers with a sense of it being mankind’s destiny.

Jon Stewart’s comedy had no value added. As Obama stated, there was a need to discuss/debate the issues to properly understand them. Every one of Stewart’s comments was addressed to the inappropriateness of ANY comment or discussion of what was stipulated. Stewart is a total waste.

It’s based on the Constitution, but before that, our Judeo-Christian morals and ethics.

You seem to be a good example of showing “defects”. Modern Liberals/Progressives seem to have a very difficult time dealing with right and wrong, good and evil, etc.

One thing for you to think about is while you are wondering where “right and wrong” come from, you have a very strong indication that Conservatives are wrong.

I submit that it”s not based on a moral system, but a variable system that is designed to force everything to be “equal”. Since Conservatives work to make things better over time, no matter what they come up, you would think they are wrong.

Likewise, absent Conservatives being the central focus, you have a strong desire to be tolerant of what does not work or fails and a strong desire to tear down what works and is considered successful.

There is no one to blame for the shooting but the shooter. We don’t know WHY he dedided to target Ms. Giffords, as of yet, and we might never know. He is a nut-case.
Those who have come out to condemn any outside parties for the shooting are relyng on baseless accusations.
Those who have come out to criticize any part of the Memorial service are showing their ignorance.
Those who have come out to defend themselves are showing their self-serving positions.
Stewart did nothing but illuminate the ignorance of those who would cast aspersions in a time of mourning and attempt to profit politically for themselves or their interests.
We have no idea who or what might have influenced the demented young man to do what he did. The time for finger-pointing is when the evidence is exposed, if ever. But, it is not now. People need to take their heads out of their collective asses and reflect on the lives of the fallen.

Stewart has been, and continues to be, wildly popular because his show is not about left vs. right, but about hypocrisy and the failure of our news media to offer truly “fair and balanced” perspectives. Remember when he went on Crossfire and tore those idiots a new one? His argument was that Cable media presents a fixed ideology with the illusion of differing perspectives. There are liberal networks and conservative networks, but both do wrong by Americans by pretending to debate issues from both sides, when its really a fixed game.

This is why the conservative parody show (who even remembers the name) was such abysmal failure. They missed the point entirely. It isn’t about spoofing liberal or conservative. The Daily Show succeeds by attacking lies and charades, whoever makes them. If anyone is their “enemy” it isn’t Glenn or Rush, its CNN and FOX.
