FBI Association on Memo: ‘Partisan Politics’ Will Not ‘Distract Us’ from Protecting U.S.
In light of President Trump’s decision to release Rep. Devin Nunes‘s House Intelligence Committee memo, the FBI Agents Association has released a statement saying they will not allow this development to derail their mission to protect the country.
“The men and women of the FBI put their lives on the line every day in the fight against terrorists and criminals because of their dedication to our country and the Constitution. The American people should know that they continue to be well-served by the world’s preeminent law enforcement agency. FBI Special Agents have not, and will not, allow partisan politics to distract us from our solemn commitment to our mission.”
The new statement echoes an announcement the agency made yesterday where they confirmed their support for Bureau Director Christopher Wray. Wray was one of the top officials who advised against the memo’s release, arguing that it creates a “false narrative” about FBI and Department of Justice practices.
The memo blames Fusion GPS’ dossier on Trump as the core reason for surveilling the candidate’s presidential campaign. The intelligence community has disputed this claim, and the memo acknowledges that Trump campaign advisor George Papadopolous was also a catalyst for an FBI counterintelligence operation.
