Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump accused Democratic rival Hillary Clinton of lying about ISIS using videos of him to recruit, saying on ABC’s This Week that she might even make a fake one just to cover her lie.
Trump tweeted early Sunday morning that Clinton was a liar.
Hillary Clinton lied when she said that “ISIS is using video of Donald Trump as a recruiting tool.” This was fact checked by @FoxNews: FALSE
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 20, 2015
“We saw that tweet, Mr. Trump. Are you going to stand by it?” asked ABC’s George Stephanopoulos.
“Well of course I’m standing by it. It was vetted… The Washington Post, Fox News went out in great detail and looked for it, and there’s no such video,” he responded.
“They may make one up, knowing the Clintons and knowing Hillary,” Trump said “But there’s no — there’s nobody — she just made it up. I mean, she made it up; it was a sound bite.”
Trump also accused Bernie Sanders of telling lies about him. “You know, they make up things in the world of politics. They’re all talk and no action, they’re politicians.”
For once, Trump is right to cite the fact-checkers. In addition to Fox News and The Washington Post, CNN and Politifact also found there was no evidence ISIS has been using videos of Trump to recruit.
