‘Village Idiots’: NY Post Shames Selfie Takers Before NYC Blast Site

 

In your daily reminder to think before snapping a selfie, a group using a selfie stick before the site of the East Village gas explosion Friday wound up on the cover of the New York Post.

The blast destroyed three buildings Thursday afternoon, injuring dozens; two people remain missing. But by the next day the site had apparently become a tourist spot. The selfie-takers were first spotted in a tweet:

Another woman who took a selfie received pushback on Instagram and since set her account to private. Via Mashable:

Nearby businesses have taken to putting up signs telling people to “gawk from the street.” “This is a tragedy. Not a tourist attraction. Show some respect.”
