CNN’s Burnett: After Arguing We Need 9 Justices, Now Democrats Making SCOTUS ‘Go Longer With Only 8’

CNN’s Erin Burnett tonight pointed out that while last year Democrats were adamant about the Supreme Court having 9 justices, now that a Republican president wants to fill that seat, they’re essentially fighting to keep it at 8 for longer.

She brought up comments by Bernie Sanders, Chuck Schumer, and others warning of the necessity of getting the Supreme Court back to 9.

Burnett observed, “Now… it’s the Democrats who are essentially forcing the court to go even longer with only 8.”

CNN’s Dana Bash said the Democrats’ argument would be that they do want to fill that seat, just not with Neil Gorsuch.

One of the Democratic senators who tweeted #WeNeedNine during his push for a Merrick Garland hearing said after the inauguration, “One of the unfortunate consequences of the Garland obstructionism has been to show that, in fact, the Supreme Court can function with eight members.”
