Mexico Ambassador to U.S. Asks For ‘Clarification’ of Trump’s Plan to Send Military to the Border
President Donald Trump‘s got some splainin’ to do. (What else is new?)
After declaring that “until we can have a wall and proper security, we’re going to be guarding our border with the military,” Trump left the Pentagon and the Mexican ambassador to the U.S., Gerónimo Gutiérrez, utterly befuddled.
Fox News’ Shepard Smith reported that the ambassador has “formally asked for clarification of the president’s statements,” which were made during his meeting with leaders from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Yes, we’re confused, too.
“It sounds like the Pentagon wants a clarification too because the Pentagon is ‘scrambling’ to respond,” Smith said to Jeff Mason, White House correspondent for Reuters.
“I think a lot of people want some clarification… He’s referred to that [plan] before but it seemed like a more explicit call today and it seems to have come out of frustration that, again, he’s not moving as swiftly as he would like on that promise that he made during the 2016 campaign to build a wall.”
