Stephen Colbert Compares Trump Presidency to Bad Musical Revival: ‘It Could Close Early’

Stephen Colbert made another appearance at the 71st Tony Awards, this time to present the award for Best Revival of a Musical.

“This has been a great year for revivals in general,” Colbert began. “Especially the one they revived down in Washington D.C.”

He continued, “It started off-broadway in the ’80s, way off-broadway over on 5th Ave.”

He noted that it had a “huge production value,” but mentioned some of its problems like the “totally unbelievable” main character and the “hair and makeup.”

“This D.C. production is supposed to have a four-year run, but the reviews have not been kind,” he added. “It could close early, but we don’t know.” The crowd roared with applause.
