Steve Bannon spent a good portion of his 60 Minutes interview forcefully rejecting the concerns about Russia which continue to hover over the Trump Administration.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller reportedly plans to expand his probe into the election interference investigation as the president’s son spoke to the Senate Judiciary Committee this week to explain why he took a meeting with a Russian lawyer last year.
As he spoke about Russia with Charlie Rose, Bannon dismissed the investigation as a “waste of time” and a “total and complete farce.”
When Rose differentiated the implications of collusion and election interference, Bannon retorted that the CBS host hasn’t seen the intelligence reports he saw inside the White House. Bannon said Russian impact on the election was “far from conclusive” (though he refused to say much more than that), and Rose eventually asked him why President Trump seems so reluctant to say anything critical about Russia.
“His point is, why pick another fight,” Bannon answered. He went on to insist that Trump “criticizes the Russians all the time. he knows the Russians are not good guys.”
