Ad Claiming GOP Candidate Is Too Liberal Is Brought To You By The Democratic Party

Terry Branstad is a Republican candidate running for Governor of Iowa, and as is to be expected, he is receiving some criticism in advertisements for being “liberal.” One such ad re-imagines the faces of Mt. Rushmore to include Branstad’s visage alongside other “liberal stalwarts” like President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. What’s unexpected about this ad, is that it appears to be paid for by the Democratic Governors Association. Whaaa?

Writing for The Upshot, Rachel Rose Hartman reports:

Tim Albrecht, spokesman for gubernatorial candidate Branstad, told The Upshot they knew something was fishy ever since the nebulously named 527 group, “Iowans for Responsible Government,” was formed in May. And today, they got their proof.

An IRS filing revealed that all of the group’s $782,500 raised came from the DGA.

“We were right all along. We have reached a new low in Iowa politics,” Albrecht said in a statement revealing the news.

Albrecht said Branstad’s campaign purchased the domain name, www.iowansforresponsiblegovernment.com, as soon as they suspected something was amiss and used the website to warn viewers about the shadow group. Albrecht noted that the 527 not only smeared Branstad, but its advertising attacked the president and multiple Democratic leaders in a seemingly counterproductive strategy.

This isn’t really all that surprising. The DCC has openly said they can’t run on their record, so they’re just going to attack the opposition, looking for any kind of dirt to smear them with.

Sure it’s low and despicable… but also telegraphed.

The DGA slipped. The original had Harry Reid’s face, not Terry Branstad’s. And the proposal for redoing Mt. Rushmore was going to made only after Pres. Obama declared America to be a Soviet Socialist Republic.

To even think about this picture is a disgrace to our forefathers. Those men that are REALLY up there fought for our rights, not the ones imposed there. Who in their RIGHT mind would even consider putting those characters pictures on our mountain. He should be deported from our USA. Did all of you hear BHO today say, in the next election, you will either vote for the person, (of course he meant G.W. Bush) that caused this depression or you will vote for the person who is getting us out of it. WOW, GUESS THAT MEANS G.W. BUSH WINS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!
