Lisa Ling Confirms Journos Did Enter North Korea, More Questions Remain

Now that Current TV journos Laura Ling and Euna Lee are back safe and sound courtesy of President Clinton, details about their trip are beginning to emerge. Speaking to CNN yesterday Laura’s sister Lisa Ling, former co-host of The View and frequent Oprah guest, revealed that the pair had indeed crossed into North Korea.

“She did say that they touched North Korean territory very, very briefly,” Ms. Ling said of her sister, adding later, “She said that it was maybe 30 seconds, and everything just got sort of chaotic. It’s a very powerful story and she does want to share it.”

Ling says that her sister plans on sharing the details in an upcoming editorial. At the moment, there are still more questions than answers. Current TV has kept a tight lid on details of the trip fearing for the safety of both Ling and Lee.

However, now that they have been returned there appears to be no reason to prolong the silence, particularly on the part of their producer Mitchel Koss, who managed to escape back to China. Was the crossing intentional? Were the two taking unnecessary risks? Why were they so close to the border in the first place? One imagines now that their safety is no longer in question there will be more pressure on both the women and Current TV to provide some answers.
