Maggie Haberman on Trump Dumping Giuliani Amid Media Blunders: ‘Absolutely Not Going to Happen’

New York TimesMaggie Haberman doubts President Donald Trump will ever cut Rudy Giuliani loose, even if the reports are true that the White House isn’t happy with the former mayor’s latest media campaigns on Trump’s behalf.

Haberman joined CNN on Wednesday to talk about the recent reports indicating the president and his team are growing increasingly frustrated with Giuliani because of his recent flubs in the middle of TV interviews. Haberman reacted to those reports by saying Trump and Giuliani share the goal of causing confusion, so she doesn’t think Trump is upset even if his advisers are tired of Giuliani.

“It is true there are people who are encouraging him to part ways with Giuliani. That is absolutely not going to happen, certainly not any time soon,” Haberman said. “He’s generally happy with what Giuliani has done. Giuliani has served as something of an extension of his client’s id over the last several months. That might make other people unhappy but not the president.”

When John Berman asked Haberman to explain Giuliani’s contradictions and walk-backs over Trump Tower Moscow, she was reluctant to venture a guess, but she inevitably presumed that “I think confusion is something they favor. This is certainly adding to that.”
