Frank Luntz: ‘Our Democracy is in Genuine Trouble Right Now’

Republican pollster Frank Luntz bemoaned the state of American Democracy after Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) essentially brought an end to the tumultuous Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court confirmation process by announcing her intention to vote “yes.”

“Both sides have looked awful,” Luntz said Friday on Your World with Neil Cavuto. “Both sides have lost credibility. The American people do not deserve this kind of ugliness when we’re trying to make important, policy, idealogical Constitutional decisions.”

According to Luntz, the GOP would do well not to take a victory lap despite the fact that the outcome is almost certain to go their way now. According to the pollster, no one will come out of this looking good.

“I think that in this we’re going to talk about winners and losers the next 96 hours. I think the American people are the loser in all of this based on what has happened. And listening to those protests, and seeing people screaming, that’s not how a democracy is supposed to function. You can say what you want about the conclusion. But our democracy is in genuine trouble right now.”
