It’s Official: Sarah Palin Is Endorsing Donald Trump for President
It’s official, folks: Sarah Palin is endorsing Donald Trump tonight.
There was a yuge flood of speculation today about Palin being the surprise guest at Trump’s Iowa rally, and now the Trump campaign has confirmed to The New York Times that yes, this is really, actually happening.
Trump said in a statement, “I am greatly honored to receive Sarah’s endorsement. She is a friend, and a high-quality person whom I have great respect for. I am proud to have her support.”
Ted Cruz‘s campaign is likely disappointed, since Cruz and Palin have been close for years, and Cruz considered Palin’s endorsement important for his Senate campaign in 2012.
A Cruz spokesman not-so-subtly said today it would be a “blow” to Palin if she backs a progressive flip-flopper like Trump over a true conservatives. Bristol Palin went off on him in response.
Palin has been fawning over Trump from the start of the campaign (while still insisting she likes others too), defending him from “spineless pundits” and making the case that since he’s a strong guy he doesn’t really have to be that knowledgable about foreign policy.
Palin will appear at Trump’s Iowa rally tonight with her full-throated endorsement. Check back with Mediaite for coverage tonight.
