Coming Soon: Game Change, The Movie? Mediaite Suggests The Cast

Game Change authors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann joined Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough in discussing their best-selling and oft blogged about book. Halperin mentioned during the event that the authors are in discussions with HBO about making a film version of their best-selling book. Their dreamcast? Meryl Streep playing Hillary Clinton and Will Smith playing Barack Obama. We can only hope that HBO's Richard Plepler can make that happen, though that would be a very dear production cost to line up that level of talent. As Halperin pointed out, it will take some real acting range to portray both the public and private personae of the politicians featured in the book. So, here goes our suggestions of who, ideally, should play each role, and what better place to start than the first family: The Obamas: Barack Obama - Will Smith Nobody is "cooler" than Barack Obama, with the possible exception of Will Smith, who has demonstrated amazing acting range and experience playing real life persona in Ali. Sort of a no brainer here. Michelle Obama - Nia Long This one is tough - Angela Basset has the gravitas and acting chops, but Nia Long wins in the likable category, and gets the part. >>>Next up, the McCains>>> The McCains John McCain - Robert Duvall Both are hard-boiled vets from a bygone time where men had little patience with the sensitive sides of anything. Duvall has great range, but playing the part of McCain would require him to go back to his role as The Great Santini. It helps that Duvall is a proud Republican and supported McCain in the 2008 race. Cindy McCain - Amy Poehler There is a significant age difference here, but there is no question about Amy Poehler's ability to act. Plus, Poehler's role in Mean Girls seems to be a suitable experience here. Finally, if Poehler is cast, that improves the chances of also casting... >>>Next, the Palins>>> The Palins: Sarah Palin - Tina Fey Come on -- this one is just too easy, though one could make a good argument for Julia Louis-Dreyfus here. Fey and Poehler are BFF and no one has really portrayed Palin better than she has to date. Done. Todd Palin - Gerard Butler Both are rugged and known for succeeding in physically strenuous activities (Palin is renowned snow-mobiler, Butler renowned for having great abs.) >>>Next, the Bidens:>>> The Bidens: Joe Biden - Craig T. Nelson Craig T. Nelson has played both serious and clownish roles. Joe Biden has been both a serious and clownish politician. Perfect. Jill Biden - Cheryl Tiegs I'm not expecting Jill Biden's character to have a ton of lines in this movie, and I'm pretty certain that Cheryl Tiegs is available. Plus, they are both pretty and roughly the same age. Next! >>>Next, the Clintons>>> The Clintons Hilary Clinton - Meryl Streep One is the most respected female politician of her generation, the other is the most respected actress of her generation. What's not to love? Plus, Streep has proven to be great at playing smart, serious, funny and sad. So too has Hillary. Bill Clinton - John Travolta Not only would Travolta be reprising his role from Primary Colors , but he's been really good playing the villain in his latest films. And there is no bigger bad guy, in Game Change at least, than Bill Clinton and his philandering ways. >>>Finally, the Edwards.>>> The Edwards John Edwards - Pierce Brosnan Two pretty boys with great hair. Elizabeth Edwards - Joan Allen Sad, sad, sad. Lest we forget Joan Allen's magnificent work in the political thriller "The Contender." Also? Stunning resemblance. Have you any suggestion?
