Hey, remember when former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was considering a third-party run? Well, instead of all that, the New York Republican has decided to back Hillary Clinton instead.
Remember, Bloomberg said months ago he didn’t want to risk Donald Trump or Ted Cruz winning, so according to The New York Times, not only is he endorsing Clinton, but he is doing it in a primetime speech at the Democratic National Convention this week.
Here’s how the endorsement is being framed:
Mr. Bloomberg will vouch for Mrs. Clinton “from the perspective of a business leader and an independent,” said Howard Wolfson, a senior adviser to Mr. Bloomberg.
“As the nation’s leading independent and a pragmatic business leader, Mike has supported candidates from both sides of the aisle,” Mr. Wolfson said. “This week in Philadelphia he will make a strong case that the clear choice in this election is Hillary Clinton.”
Clinton has been very vocal in reaching out to Republicans appalled by Trump.
Another surprise DNC speaker will be retired U.S. Marine Corps General John Allen.
