Trump Responds to Sgt. La David Johnson’s Widow: We Had a ‘Very Respectful Conversation’
President Donald Trump responded to the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson on Twitter Monday morning, rejecting her characterization of their call:
I had a very respectful conversation with the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, and spoke his name from beginning, without hesitation!

In an interview with Good Morning America on Monday, Myeshia Johnson claimed that in Trump’s consolation call to her, the president’s flippant tone made her upset.
She also claimed that it seemed Trump did not know the name of her husband, who was killed in an ambush by ISIS-affiliated militants while serving in Niger.
“The only way he remembered my husband’s name is because he told me he had my husband’s report in front of him,” Mysehia said in the interview. “I heard him stumbling on trying to remember my husband’s name.”
“And that’s what hurt me the most, because if my husband is out here fighting his life for our country, and he risked his life for our country, why can’t you remember his name?” she asked. “And that’s what made me upset and made me cry even more.”
So now we have the latest back-and-forth between the president and the Gold Star widow, with Trump claiming that he “spoke [La David’s] name from beginning, without hesitation!”
