Obama Comments on CIA Scandal, Admits ‘We Tortured Some Folks’
During his press briefing today, President Obama addressed the scandal over the CIA hacking into Senate computers, as well as the report the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence was conducting on CIA interrogation techniques. And the president rather bluntly told the reporters in attendance, “We tortured some folks.”
Obama expressed “full confidence” in CIA Director John Brennan after he apologized for CIA personnel that (in the president’s words) “did not properly handle” the investigation. He also touted how Brennan called for the inspector general’s report into CIA conduct in the first place, though Brennan expressed confidence months ago that the report’s findings would refute what the CIA’s critics were saying.
As for the use of enhanced interrogation techniques, Obama said, “In the immediate aftermath of 9/11, we did some things that were wrong. We did a whole lot of things that were right, but we tortured some folks.”
