Sarah Silverman: ‘I’m Very Lucky’ in the Era of Trump That I Don’t Have to Sew a Star on My Clothes
Sarah Silverman appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher and had some brutal commentary about the Trump presidency.
Bill Maher began by congratulating the actress/comedian for receiving her star on the Walk of Fame earlier in the day, but she responded with some rather grim remarks.
“You know, in a time, Bill, where anti-Semitic crime is up 57% since this douchebag has taken office, it is not lost on me that I am very lucky that I get a star and I don’t have to sew it on my clothes,” Silverman said, which got quite the reaction from the audience.
“Oh, no you didn’t!” Maher joked.
“I did!” Silverman responded. “I don’t know if that’s gallows humor or just like ‘it’s funny because it’s true’ humor.”
She then spoke about her political show I Love You, America, where she travels the country and occasionally has civil discussions with folks across the aisle (particularly Trump supporters) and what she learned is that there’s a differences between “the liars and the lied to.”
“They don’t know they’re lied to,” Silverman said of Trump supporters. “It’s like cults. Cults don’t know they’re lied to.”
