Full Video of Shirley Sherrod’s Speech at NAACP Event

video

Former USDA official Shirley Sherrod has been the story of the day, as the emerging context to the remarks that got her fired yesterday have turned her from racial villain to inspiration overnight. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack demanded her resignation because of a clip posted on the internet by Andrew Breitbart, despite her protestations that the full tape would exonerate her.

Now, the NAACP has released the full video of the speech. Watch it after the jump.

Not only does the full tape show exactly what Sherrod says it does, it also contains a remarkable speech about her life, one which contains the kind of honesty about race that should have earned her praise, not censure.

@Tommy (or someone): Is the full forty-three minutes her address, or are there awards or something behind it? And, though this may seem like an odd question considering that editing was part of the original problem, but are you or @VideoJon planning to cut it into bite-sized nuggets?

You gotta love it when liberals tell the truth!

Mary Frances Berry admitted this at the Politico:

Professor of American Social Thought and History, U. Penn. :

Tainting the tea party movement with the charge of racism is proving to be an effective strategy for Democrats. There is no evidence that tea party adherents are any more racist than other Republicans, and indeed many other Americans. But getting them to spend their time purging their ranks and having candidates distance themselves should help Democrats win in November. Having one’s opponent rebut charges of racism is far better than discussing joblessness.

    So everybody loses.

    This whole ordeal was pathetic.

Poor little Michelle, when faced with the truth she’s got to try and change the subgect.

Oh and John, Mary wrote in 1984 that “civil rights laws were not passed to protect the rights of white men and do not apply to them.”

    Now spin away!!

It’s hysterical how desperately the liberal media rushes to view the full video, find character witnesses, and defend Sherrod, but yet are completely absent when it comes to proving the Black Caucus members were spit on or called n-word. Or to prove Think Progress smeared Tea Partiers by searching for the full videos they so pathetically edited together.

I think the NAACP just got served a plate of *backatcha*.

    .

    The time line of the Shirley Sherrod – NAACP story reveals it all;

1 – Breibert had video on his site.

2 – NAACP denounces Sherrod and throws her under the bus.

3 – White House demands Sherrod resign and throws her under the bus.

4 – Sherrod resigns. (later tells CNN that she was FORCED to resign because the “white house” was afraid that Beck would have her on his show).

5 – Some Fox News shows do the story

7 – Glenn Beck DOES NOT have Sherrod on his show that evening.

So apparently according to the time line Obama and the NAACP JUMPED THE GUN and had a rush to judgment…and Sherrod ADMITS on CNN that she resigned because the White House was afraid of Glenn Beck..huh?

So the NAACP had the full video and still condemned this woman without checking it first? Does mediaite.com have the timeline of events in this story?

This entire episode shows the extent to which the right wing will go to promote their racist, fearful ideas that the blacks under President Obama are out to “do them wrong,” Facts don’t mean a thing to the radical right. They have an agenda and spreading fear and hate is at the heart of it. This entire incident was designed to take the heat off them for their obvious racism which is shown in their rants and racially charged words and outrageous signs. (apparently some on this thread have blinders on when it comes to seeing this.. .)

What is just as disturbing, however, is the Obama administration decision to cower in the face of such attacks instead of meeting them head on. The woman should have been given a full hearing but she wasn’t because the Obama administration is so afraid of being tagged as racist that it grabbed the bait and pulled the trigger immediately. They should understand that the right wing will make this charge no matter what they do, This tactic has been used many MANY times before by right wingers who put out false lies and falsely edited tapes and believe they are justified in doing this because any means is justified in the war to “win back” their country.

The fact is that nothing …no amount of reasoning or fair play will deter them in their games of race baiting and claims that whites are the target of the Nazi Obama administration and the sooner the administration and others realize that the better.

The Obama administration needs to stand up to their campaign of lies and hate and self-pity and asinine claims instead of making knee jerk responses out of fear in a vain hope to appease them. This is hardly their finest moment.

The moral outrage on both sides of the NAACP/Tea Party debate is pretty laughable. Mark Williams claims that the Tea Party has no racists? Come on. Get 20 people together at a neighborhood block party and you will have a racist in your presence. And the NAACP, while they have accomplished many good things for African Americans, they are hardly the last bastion of unadulterated racial tolerance.

    Very FUNNY!

I first saw the comment about Federal Jobs being permanent and that shouted TEA PARTY to me. That is exactly what the TEA Party was created to fight against, uncontrollable govt.
I saw her comments about the white farmer and, like many, was stunned. I saw the entire video and I see Shirley as a potential TEA Party member.
I see someone who, like Martin Luther King stated, is worthy of the appellation ‘American’ NOT because of the color of her skin but of the content of her charactor. In that short summation of her life you could read the story of a personal struggle to take what life had given and create something beautiful out of it.
She is a true capitalist: she took the mud of experience and crafted a statue of a life. She created value out of worthlessness and garbage and horror. She made something from what, to many of us, would have been the rubble of life.

Flaws in her comments? Certainly, but she fashioned a life, apparently, to be proud of.
I am proud to call her an American and she doesn’t need my justification.
    Would we disagree?
Being against ‘rich’ people is as general and ‘racist’ as being against ‘black’ people. What we, as Americans, should be against is anything that dehumanizes: whether Auschwitz or Albany, GA, whether it’s lynchings in the South or Honor killings in Pakistan.
If everyone had a million dollars the person with a hundred thousand would be poor. We should not judge by wealth, but by a life lived, by others served and by evolving our life into and from something.

The real elites here, the real ‘racists’ are those who would, as she stated, divide us along any lines that can be imagined.

Jews were marched to their deaths in long lines. It was set up so that, every so often, along the march, the Jews would have to make a choice: this way or that? It was set up that way because those who created the Final Solution knew that the Jews, being generally intellectuals, would concern themselves with trying to choose the right path and not realize that all paths led to death.

United we stand. Divided we fall.

The issue of race is nothing more than a smokescreen. Both of these organizations, at large, are political. Instead of getting into politics (though I suppose this could be considered low brow politics) it’s easier for them, and for the people, to get behind race. It takes the complexity out of politics and allow the simple among us to boil it down to a tasty Big Mac.

And that’s really who this is geared for.
