Joe Scarborough On Rick Perry: You ‘Really Couldn’t Design A Worse General Election Candidate’

video

President Obama’s approval ratings right now are bad. Really bad. However, according to Joe Scarborough on Morning Joe today, there may be, as his co-host Mika Brzezinski put it, a “silver lining with spurs on it.” None other than Rick Perry.

With even Michele Bachmann’s former campaign head saying the race was now between Perry and Mitt Romney, the Morning Joe crowd debated which candidate would be better for Obama’s reelection chances. Scarborough was firmly on the side of Perry, calling him “a man who couldn’t win a swing state if his life depended on it,” bringing up some of the more controversial comments in his recent book like his belief that it might be better if the general public didn’t get to vote for Senators.

However, Scarborough’s views weren’t shared unanimously. Chuck Todd argued that the White House may prefer Romney over Perry, pointing out that Perry would be coming into the election strong while Romney would be weakened after fighting with the Texas governor for the nomination. Pat Buchanan added that, were Romney to be the nominee, the campaign would then be about Obama.

In the end though, Brzezinski summed up the feelings about Perry most simply by wondering aloud “Why do they keep putting people like this out?”

I’m no Rick Perry fan (I’m a “Paultard”), but he would crush Obama in a general election.  These people need to get out of NYC for a day.

  • The Real Royal Emperor

I wouldn’t be too sure of that. We have some striking flip-flops by Tollbooth, even compared to Willard, and that always creates problems. We also have the shameful, hateful pandering to the extreme right. Frankly, if I were a Teapublican, I would listen to Joe about this and I shouldn’t be surprised if Tollbooth doesn’t end up wanting to spend more time with his family.

  • TruDat

Good thing nobody gives a flying F*ck what you think.

  • Arkansas Steve

    IN OTHER WORDS:
We’re scared to death, so we’ll dis a possible opponent so all our fools will think we’re NOT going to hell without collecting $200.

You really couldn’t design a more repulsive pair of androids than Joe Scabrous & Mika Brizinka.

  • caconservative

Morning Joe, or should it be “mourning” Joe? As the amount, and depth of Obimbo’s ineptness, and lack of talent for the job becomes more evident every day, so does the among of deflection by “mourning-Joe”, and the Liberal news anchors. As 2012 looms ever closer, look for these cellar-dwelling Liberal news shows to become hysterically virulent in their rhetoric. Signs of implosion are already apparent.

  • Moosenuts99

    Nice job disputing Joe’s points

  • Moosenuts99

Very informative. Way to dispute the position Joe is taking, very smart of you.

  • Moosenuts99

    Huh?

  • Anonymous

Every candidate flip-flops… except Ron Paul that is. And he has no chance of winning. But I think in the end Perry will flame-out. It was too early to peak. Remember it was Hilliary’s race to loose at one point in our not too distant history.

  • Anonymous

Note to Joe: Perry’s opinion on the 17th Amendment is NOT going to be the deciding factor in this election. Perry made some remarks about Texas seceding? Puh-leeeze. As far as Perry being the candidate Obama wants to run against, I seem to recall that Reagan was the opponent Carter wanted. I’m thinking that if Perry wins the nomination, the final result will be strikingly similar.

  • Anonymous

Two words: Barack Obama……you pompous left wing bomb throwing jackass.

I certainly hope Jo-ke Scarborough goes all black in his rendition of Barack from the hoods next speech.

Just who and where do these left wing douchebags think they are?

They ain’t in obama’s amerika no mo, that’s fo damn sho!

  • The Real Royal Emperor

And, the interesting thing about Hillary! was not that she flipped-flopped. In fact, she was remarkably consistent. I admire her a great deal. She had a flawed campaign strategy, thanks largely to Mark Rich, and when those flaws began to take their inevitable toll, she got abrasive and angry. She lost my support at the University of Cincinnati speech.

Having said, intelligent people change their positions over the course of time. Events change. Perceptions change. Needs change. I think where candidates get in trouble is not so much changing positions and the perception that the change is merely for pandering. Willard and Tollbooth are both simply terrible about that. I think Willard may be better poised to muddle through, however.

The thing is, Perry’s  flip flips will have come a year after he made his original remarks.

  • huffnnruffln

What does it say about the relationship God has with Rick Perry when Perry prays for rain in Texas and God gives it fire?

  • Glutton

Rick Perry won’t crush anyone in a general election.  All Obama could do to distract people from his failures as president is to remind everyone of Bush.  With Rick Perry, it fits right into that narrative.  I know Rick Perry seems like a great guy for right-wing nut jobs, but he’s scary to independent voters.  There’s only one Texan that would crush Obama in a GE but that guy won’t get the nomination because he speaks the truth.

  • Glutton

Rick Perry reminds me of Palin.  Sure, his image appeals to the Republican base, but the man has no substance.  I would like to hear Rick Perry be taken to task or asked tough questions (other than how old he thinks the world is), and then we’ll see how legit this guy is.

  • Glutton

Reminds people of George W. Bush, Bilderberg, supports sanctuary cities, is running on 1 stat (jobs) and those jobs are generally a joke, used to be a Gore supporting Democrat, mandated gardasil vaccinations as Texas governor, executed more people in Texas history, took stimulus money to balance 97% of his budget in Texas, rebutted Obamacare by talking secession, thinks that only prayer could fix the economy, and even admitted that the only difference between himself and Bush is that he is dumber than Bush.  Sorry, but if Obama could personally design a GOP opponent, it would be Rick Perry.

  • Glutton

It says that God even thinks Rick Perry is a nut.

  • Glutton

Reagan had an appeal to independent voters and even some liberals.  Rick Perry has no appeal to anyone besides a right-wing religious base.  Bad comparison.

  • huffnnruffln
  • The Real Royal Emperor

Would that be because the Republicans would then have blown through the Donald, T-Paw, Mad Michelle, Willard, Tollbooth; Sanitarium, Huntsmann, the Newt will still be pulling up their socks; the Half-Baked Alaskan will still not have mad up her mind, and that will leave only Dr. Ron Paul in the race?

  • The Real Royal Emperor

I thought it was Palin who was the worst possible candidate for the GOP. Or was it Bachmann? I guess it’s now Rick Perry? Let’s see. He’s a governor so that gives him executive experience while allowing him to portray himself as a Washington outsider. He’s presided over a state responsible for between 40-50% of the jobs created in the US since 2009. He served in the Air Force. He’s great at retail politics. He doesn’t have any personal skeletons in his closet or any associations with terrorists or communists. And he wins every time he runs for office. Oh and he used to be a Democrat and is not lock step with the far right on issues such as the border fence, in-state tuition for illegals, or term limits.

Yeah, what a horrible nominee, Joseph. How could a radical like that ever win the Presidency? Especially when matched up with such an accomplished individual like Barack Obama?

  • Anonymous

Perry’s campaign is in it’s nascent stages and obviously has to win over the Republican primary electorate first. When he pivots to the center for the general there’s every chance his appeal will widen, especially considering Odumbo’s continuing failure to lead the country out of it’s economic doldrums.

  • huffnnruffln

I know people who insist that Neil Bush will jump into the race and get the nomination. Wow. I get giddy imagining the tea party apoplexy should that happen.

  • Anonymous

If people believe Perry can lead this country to an economic recovery will any of that matter?

  • Glutton

Thanks for admitting that Perry is nothing but opportunistic talk right now.  Can’t wait for his flip flop.

  • Glutton

Right, he could lead the country to economic recovery with prayer.  How well did that work out for the Texas droughts?

  • Glutton

Actually, Palin and Bachmann are far more respectable than Perry.

I can think of a worse general candidate.  A congressman who was forced to leave office because an assistant was allegedly alone in his office and allegedly fell and allegedly hit her head on the floor and died while allegedly no one else saw nor confirmed this.  I can’t remember that persons name but I think he would be a worse general candidate.

  • NeverWrong

Jealous Joe Blowhard is at it again. This extremely LOW IQ talking idiot who is a socialist even though he still tries to tell people he is a Republican is so full of it everyone calls him Joe Blowhard. Nobody believes a word this wacko says. Joe Blowhard aka Joe Scarborough got out of the House of Reps. when he was told nobody would vote for him if he ran for another term and to forget about ever running for the Senate. So now he is catching heat over his extremely low rated (worst ratings on LSD/PMSnbc even lower than Al NOTsharpTON and Chrissy ‘Tingles & Thrills’ Matthews). so he is trying anything and everything to get his ratings up (averages less than 400,000 viewers ROTFFLMFAO). So why should anyone give this scumbag the time of day? No one should…BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I have seen Bilderberg mentioned by conspiracy theorist often enough that I finally looked it up.
Here is a quote taken from Wikipedia (I know, Wiki is questionable, but it makes sense)

    In 2001, Denis Healey,
a Bilderberg group founder and, for 30 years, a steering committee
member, said: “To say we were striving for a one-world government is
exaggerated, but not wholly unfair. Those of us in Bilderberg felt we
couldn’t go on forever fighting one another for nothing and killing
people and rendering millions homeless. So we felt that a single
community throughout the world would be a good thing.”[43] In 2005 Davignon discussed these accusations with the BBC:
“It is unavoidable and it doesn’t matter. There will always be people
who believe in conspiracies but things happen in a much more incoherent
fashion… When people say this is a secret government of the world I
say that if we were a secret government of the world we should be bloody
    ashamed of ourselves.”[34]

So. Where is the great danger in bilderberg? More importantly, what connects Rick Perry with Bilderberg?

  • barack will stack :)

Rick Perry’s Texas Miracle – here’s how Texas ranks:

    * Over a majority of the jobs added in Texas are low paying or
    at minimum wage

    * Texas budget deficit is ranked 3rd highest in the nation at
    27 billion!

    * Percentage of population in poverty last 12 months  39th out of 50 states

    * Percentage of children living below poverty level 41st of
    50.

    * Teen birth rate 48th of 50

    * Percentage of people over 25 that have finished high school
    50th of 50

    * 1 out of 4 Texans are uninsured

Perry is Obama in a 10 gallon hat!

Obama has lied about everything he promised to do when he ran for office…everything!
The most basic is his administration would be the most open and transparent in the history.
This guy has complete back-up by the MSM and no one is calling him out but Fox and a few new media outlets.
He is nothing but a liar and will loose this election…his own words will be used against him.
Can’t wait for those election commercials.

Pat Buchanan makes a very astute comment, as usual.  Obama vs Romney, and the election is about Obama’s record because Romney is already a known quantity.  Perry will be looked at very closely; all of the wild statements about social security (otherwise known as the 3rd rail in politics) and so on.  When those commercials hit the airwaves, the seniors will reject Perry.  They vote out of fear, fear that some boy genius like that Irish guy is going to make mincemeat out of their medicare or Perry is going to bludgeon their social security.

  • Anonymous

Most of these guys here that call themselves conservatives vote on emotion.  A lot of them have already jumped on the Perry bandwagon, not because of the issues, but out of emotion.  They think he’s tough, and Texan, etc.  Most of them are very shallow and emotional people.  They want someone up there to make them feel good again.  I just want someone who knows what he’s doing.

Perry is not Reagan.  Try W light.  We’ve already seen that movie before and it doesn’t end well.

These guys are pathetic especially Scarborough, he really has turned into a full fledge rino, not even that anymore he’s now given in and is a msnbc liberal , Joe you are sickening and how are those ratings huh? Pretty bad , you’ll never make it like this bashing the GOP like you do, you are hated by so many republicans now, another David Brock you are. Say all you want about Gov Perry but the majority here in Texas loves him, he is a good man and really cares for the people here, how dare you make fun of him he got elected three times, and this is the second biggest state, I pray he does not ever go on msnbc, and it is a shame that msnbc is co-host of the debate, no unbiased here, it’s a joke who the commentators are going to be after the debate, talk about total bias, all Obama lovers.

You have no clue what your talking about, he’s won Gov three times, no other Gov has done that here, I’m an independent and voted for him, I can’t get over you libs here, underestimate Perry and you lose big time. He’s loving this.

Dear god, hope you get the letter and…
I pray you can make it better down here
I don’t mean a big reduction in the price of beer
But all the people that you made in your image
See them starving in the street
‘Cause they don’t get enough to eat from god
    I can’t believe in you

Dear god, sorry to disturb you but…
I feel that I should be heard loud and clear
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears
And all the people that you made in your image
See them fighting in the street
‘Cause they can’t make opinions meet about god
    I can’t believe in you

Did you make disease and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
    And the devil too!

Dear god don’t know if you noticed but…
Your name is on a lot of quotes in this book
And us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look
And all the people that you made in your image
still believing that junk is true
Well I know it ain’t, and so do you
    Dear god
    I can’t believe in
    I don’t believe

I won’t believe in heaven or hell
No saints, no sinners, no devil as well
No pearly gates, no thorny crown
You’re always letting us humans down
The wars you bring, the babes you drown
Those lost at sea and never found
And it’s the same the whole world ’round
The hurt I see helps to compound
That father, son and holy ghost
    Is just somebody’s unholy hoax
And if you’re up there you’ll perceive
That my heart’s here upon my sleeve
If there’s one thing I don’t believe in

    It’s you
    Dear god

WALT WHITMAN: I Sing the Body Electric:

    “I sing the body electric,
The armies of those I love engirth me and I engirth them,
They will not let me off till I go with them, respond to them,
And discorrupt them, and charge them full with the charge of the soul.
Was it doubted that those who corrupt their own bodies conceal themselves?
And if those who defile the living are as bad as they who defile the dead?
And if the body does not do fully as much as the soul?
And if the body were not the soul, what is the soul?
    2
The love of the body of man or woman balks account, the body itself
    balks account,
That of the male is perfect, and that of the female is perfect.
The expression of the face balks account,
But the expression of a well-made man appears not only in his face,
It is in his limbs and joints also, it is curiously in the joints of
    his hips and wrists,
It is in his walk, the carriage of his neck, the flex of his waist
and knees, dress does not hide him,
The strong sweet quality he has strikes through the cotton and broadcloth,
To see him pass conveys as much as the best poem, perhaps more,
You linger to see his back, and the back of his neck and shoulder-side.”

“As I see my soul reflected in Nature,
As I see through a mist, One with inexpressible completeness,
    sanity, beauty,
See the bent head and arms folded over the breast, the Female I see.”
    6
The male is not less the soul nor more, he too is in his place,
He too is all qualities, he is action and power,
The flush of the known universe is in him,
Scorn becomes him well, and appetite and defiance become him well,
The wildest largest passions, bliss that is utmost, sorrow that is
utmost become him well, pride is for him,
The full-spread pride of man is calming and excellent to the soul,
Knowledge becomes him, he likes it always, he brings every thing to
    the test of himself,
Whatever the survey, whatever the sea and the sail he strikes
    soundings at last only here,
(Where else does he strike soundings except here?)

The man’s body is sacred and the woman’s body is sacred,
No matter who it is, it is sacred–is it the meanest one in the
    laborers’ gang?
is it one of the dull-faced immigrants just landed on the wharf?
Each belongs here or anywhere just as much as the well-off, just as
    much as you,

Each has his or her place in the procession.
    (All is a procession,
The universe is a procession with measured and perfect motion.)
Do you know so much yourself that you call the meanest ignorant?
Do you suppose you have a right to a good sight, and he or she has
    no right to a sight?
Do you think matter has cohered together from its diffuse float, and
the soil is on the surface, and water runs and vegetation sprouts,
For you only, and not for him and her?”

    The Internationale

Arise ye workers [starvelings] from your slumbers
    Arise ye prisoners of want
For reason in revolt now thunders
And at last ends the age of cant.
    Away with all your superstitions
    Servile masses arise, arise
We’ll change henceforth [forthwith] the old tradition [conditions]
And spurn the dust to win the prize.

    So comrades, come rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale unites the human race.
    So comrades, come rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale unites the human race.

    No more deluded by reaction
On tyrants only we’ll make war
The soldiers too will take strike action
They’ll break ranks and fight no more
And if those cannibals keep trying
To sacrifice us to their pride
They soon shall hear the bullets flying
We’ll shoot the generals on our own side.

No saviour from on high delivers
No faith have we in prince or peer
Our own right hand the chains must shiver
Chains of hatred, greed and fear
E’er the thieves will out with their booty [give up their booty]
And give to all a happier lot.
Each [those] at the forge must do their duty
And we’ll strike while the iron is hot.

You know when a presidential candidate is a person to be scared of when the left wing media and the liberals start bashing him out. It makes it easier for the right wing to know who to vote for,.lol

  • Anonymous

Allan Lichtman, the American University professor whose election formula has correctly called every president since Ronald Reagan’s 1984 re-election, has a belated birthday present for Barack Obama: Rest easy, your re-election is in the bag.
“Even if I am being conservative, I don’t see how Obama can lose,” says Lichtman, the brains behind The Keys to the White House.
Lichtman’s prediction helps to explain a quirk in some polling that finds that while Americans disapprove of the president, they still think he will win re-election. [Check out political cartoons about the 2012 GOP field.]
Working for the president are several of Lichtman’s keys, tops among them incumbency and the scandal-free nature of his administration.Undermining his re-election is a lack of charisma and leadership on key issues, says Lichtman, even including healthcare, Obama’s crowning achievement.
Lichtman developed his 13 Keys in 1981. They test the performance of the party that holds the presidency. If six or more of the 13 keys go against the party in power, then the opposing party wins.“The keys have figured into popular politics a bit,” Lichtman says. “They’ve never missed. They’ve been right seven elections in a row. A number that goes way beyond statistical significance in a record no other system even comes close to.”
Lichtman’s earned quite the reputation. In 1992, it seemed likely former President George H.W. Bush would be re-elected, having reached historic highs in popularity after he launched a war that pushed Iraqi troops out of Kuwait. But Lichtman thought otherwise and that factored into former Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton’s decision to challenge Bush.“I got a call from this woman with a thick southern drawl. It was Clinton’s special assistant. She wanted to know if it was true that a Democrat could win. I assured her it was and I sent Clinton a copy of my book and a memo and the rest is history.” [See photos of the Obamas behind the scenes.]
In 2005, Lichtman also hit a home run when he said that the political stage was looking so bad for Republicans that Democrats could pick a name out of the phone book and win in 2008, the year a little known first-term senator became the first African-American to win the presidency.
Now Lichtman’s predicting a repeat performance by Obama.

Mika, they “let people like that out” because he qualifies to be president of the USA by the conditions set forth in the US Constitutions.  He is 35-years-of-age a natural born citizen of the USA, and has lived in the USA for 14 years. He also served several years in the US Air Force as a pilot, and has 10+ years as governor of the 2d largest state by both population and land mass, unlike the Community-Organizer-in-Chief whose main qualification for the job is the ability to read a teleprompter. It is NOT a requirement that he be a favorite of TV personalities on the most Left-leaning TV cable network.
