John Avlon Hits Trump’s ‘Dangerous’ Nuclear Button Tweet: ‘We Can’t Begin to Normalize This’
“This is a President of the United States doing a measuring contest about nuclear weapons,” says @JohnAvlon. “We can’t begin to normalize this. This is dangerous. This is childish. This is unpresidential. It’s not befitting the leader of the free world.” pic.twitter.com/9vZU2sJzQF

Daily Beast Editor-in-Chief John Avlon appeared on CNN today, where he slammed President Trump over his boastful tweet about how his “nuclear button” is so much bigger and stronger than Kim Jon Un’s.
“This is language that would have been rejected from the script of ‘Dr. Strangelove,'” said Avlon. “We can’t begin to normalize this. This is dangerous. This is childish. This is unpresidential. It’s not befitting the leader of the free world.”
Trump’s tweet electrified the Twitterverse last night, sending people into a predictable frenzy about how intercontinental nuclear war may be imminent. Avlon added that because of Trump’s track record, the only courses of action for administration officials are either a face-palm moments, or more sycophantic praise for the boss.
“Both are utterly unacceptable,” said Avlon. “Somehow, we have reached a pathetic new low with higher stakes than ever before.”
