GOP Rep. Sean Duffy Attacks American Trading Partners Committing ‘Economic Terrorism’ Against the U.S.
Congressman Sean Duffy (R-WI) defended President Donald Trump‘s trade war escalations by arguing that America’s trading partners are already engaged in “economic terrorism” against the country.
Trump is holding a meeting with European Union president Donald Tusk today, so Harris Faulkner asked Duffy for his thoughts about the tensions between the two regarding tariffs, free trade, and Trump’s recent remarks at NATO. Duffy responded by slamming the countries who responded to Trump’s tariffs with retaliatory taxes designed to penalize farmers and the president’s supporters in the midwest.
“We knew that Europe, China, Canada, and Mexico would go after American agriculture. That’s how they try to take us down. This is, I think, economic terrorism in a way. They want to shock us into submission by going after our agriculture instead of saying ‘let’s reduce barriers and may the best producer at the lowest cost for the best product actually win.’ They can’t do that because they know we will beat them, so they want to protect their products.”
Duffy continued to heap praise on Trump for “fighting for the American people” in spite of questions about whether its politically smart to take on these international economic fights.
