Rep. Gohmert Has a ‘Strategy’ for Obama: Declare ‘War Against Radical Islam’
If President Barack Obama is looking for a “strategy” to combat ISIS, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) has one he would like to suggest. Appearing on Fox News’ Your World with Neil Cavuto shortly after the president made his statement from the White House press room, Gohmert said he and many other members of Congress would eagerly approve a “declaration of war against radical Islam.”
“He has never had a good strategy,” Gohmert said of Obama on Fox. He said he believes that if Obama had bombed President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria as he proposed doing a year ago, then ISIS would have already taken over that entire country.
Now, Gohmert said Obama should “bomb the bad guys,” meaning “ISIS” and “the radical Islamists.” Referring to the Arab Spring, Gohmert said Obama “kept choosing to help radical Islam.”
“I think a lot of us would be willing to have a declaration of war against radical Islam,” Gohmert continued, “including Al Qaeda, ISIS, ISIL, all of these splinter groups.” ISIS and ISIL are two names for the same group that now calls itself the Islamic State.
Following Obama’s press conference Thursday afternoon, White House officials attempted to clarify the president’s “we don’t have a strategy yet” remarks, saying they referred specifically to Syria and not to ISIS in general.
