Joe Biden Admits He Loves (Loves!) The Way The Onion Mocks Him

“America’s Finest News Source,” The Onion, has had a bit of a field day with Vice President Joe Biden. And it’s been that way since day one, when The Onion reported Biden showing up at the inauguration with a long blonde ponytail. Later, writers suggested the vice president had been “quietly singing Pearl Jam’s ‘Even Flow’ during (a) security briefing.”

And then there’s the Trans Am pic, which purports to show a shirtless and tattooed Biden washing his Pontiac. What’s he think of all the attention? “It’s hilarious.”

In an interview with Yahoo!, Biden admits he gets a kick out of the mockery (and he says he does have a car he dotes on, but it’s a ’67 Corvette, not a Trans Am):

“Most people refer to me who know me, and even in the press, of being a little bit square,” Biden said. “And now, I’m the philanderer. I think it’s hilarious, the stuff they do on me.”

What they’ve done is create a majestic and amazing caricature of the vice president, known previously for less splashy exploits, like his devotion to Amtrak. As The Atlantic‘s Erik Hayden put it, The Onion‘s writers have been “painting him incongruously as something of a trashy, aging playboy.” Hellz yeah.

That man akways seems to be enjoying himself. It’s really refreshing.

Several times, the people on “Morning Joe” have referred to Biden as the best vice-president in our history. I don’t think I can answer than to say through Nixon, Johnson, Humphrey, Agnew, Ford, Mondale, Poppy, Gore and Cheney, Biden has been the best vice-president in my lifetime. So much of our foreign policy success and our new-found respect in the world is because of Biden.

If the left has a sense of humor how come they bitch about “Barrack the Magic Negro” and “Baking Queen” (Barney Frank’s song)? Now I’ll give credit to Biden on this one, but don’t tell me that the left has a sense of humor just because Biden does.

I’m not sure that’s really Joe Biden in the picture because of the phrase, “… PURPORTS to show a shirtless and tattooed Biden washing his Pontiac.” Let’s not be hasty in judging the body unbeautiful!

Meanwhile, I’m happy that Biden gets a kick out of The Onion as I do, too, and a sense of humor is one of the most desired traits in a leader. With that, everything else can be accomplished with style and grace, and painful realizations can be made palatable. I suspect that Biden is working behind the scenes and is doing a great job.
