In a piece subtitled “The Clinton email scandal alarms Democrats,” Politico’s Gabriel Debendetti lists off a number of Democratic operatives who are clearly unnerved by the uproar over Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email address and server during her time as secretary of state. But former Clinton administration adviser and CNN contributor Paul Begala has a slightly different view.
The article, published Thursday night, quotes various Iowa Democrats who say they are “disappointed,” “alarmed” and worried Hillary Clinton might “implode totally” before reaching the 2016 finish line still close to two years away.
But the kicker comes with Begala’s uncensored quote, which puts the story in a perspective that reaches beyond the scandal-obsessed media machine:
“Voters do not give a shit. They do not even give a fart… Find me one persuadable voter who agrees with HRC on the issues but will vote against her because she has a non-archival-compliant email system and I’ll kiss your ass in Macy’s window and say it smells like roses.”
While the email issue does raise important questions about transparency, when you put it like that, it’s hard to believe this will still be a prominent issue in voters’ minds next fall.
