Sarah Sanders: Critics Of Trump’s Off-the-Cuff Policy Announcements Don’t Know ‘How Civics Works’
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was pressed today on the perception that the White House is constantly scrambling to provide policy details or explanations after the president makes a surprising announcement. The press secretary responded by saying anyone that believes in that perception doesn’t understand civics.
“Well, I think that’s a perception of completely — people that don’t understand, I guess, how civics works,” Sanders answered when asked about Trump’s recent domestic and foreign policy declarations. “The only person elected to make these decisions and actually outline what policy should look like is the president.”
She continued, “So, when he makes an announcement, he’s the only one that has the authority to do so. He’s carrying out the duties that he was elected to do, and it’s up to his staff to implement those policies that he announces or that he makes, so it’s — he’s doing exactly what the American people asked him to do and that’s to come here and change Washington. And he’s doing that every single day.”
And with that, Sanders quickly moved on.
