On Tuesday morning’s Fox & Friends, hosts Gretchen Carlson, Steve Doocy, and Brian Kilmeade looked ahead to former president Bill Clinton‘s DNC address by first taking a look back at a comment he’d made when then-Senator Barack Obama had been embroiled in a heated campaign against his wife, Hillary Clinton.
The hosts made note of a New Yorker article by Ryan Lizza that mentions that, when Clinton was attempting to convince Ted Kennedy to support his wife’s bid for the Democratic nomination in 2008, he’d remarked that “a few years ago, this guy [Obama] would have been carrying our bags.”
Kilmeade defended Clinton against criticism that his comment was racist or had “racial undertones,” saying that those who know the former President understand that “there’s not a cell in his body that’s racist.” Lizza himself came to the same conclusion, yesterday telling Starting Point host Soledad O’Brien that “I don’t think it’s racial. I don’t think Bill Clinton has a racist bone in his body.
Carlson then wondered whether Clinton’s speech tonight will help pave the way for another Hillary run in ’16.
