Trump Asked About Forgetting Name of Fallen Soldier: I Have ‘One of the Great Memories of All Time’
During President Donald Trump’s press gaggle today, he once again refuted the gold star widow who claimed that he disrespected her family after her husband’s death in Niger.
Trump said Myeshia Johnson sounded “like a lovely lady,” and that he was “extremely courteous” when he called her after Sgt. La David Johnson’s death earlier this month. He also took shots at the media by accusing them of never reporting on gold star families who speak positively about him.
Trump insisted that he “respects” Johnson, while contradicting the widow’s claims that he did not know her husband’s name. Trump boasted about his “great memory” again while talking about how he had a chart in front of him with Johnson’s name on it during the call.
“They put a chart in front, La David. It says La David Johnson. So I go right from the beginning, no hesitation, one of the great memories of all time. There was no hesitation. I think she’s a fantastic woman.”
