NBC’s Hillary Clinton mini-series doesn’t have a script yet. CNN’s documentary feature doesn’t even have a title yet. But that hasn’t stopped the RNC from speculating about what moments from the former first lady, senator and secretary of state’s life may or may not make the cut. In this new online ad released Sunday, the GOP shows the one clip CNN and NBC “might ‘forget’ to show you.”
Naturally, the RNC’s video points to the one Clinton moment many conservatives view as the most damaging: on the question of why four Americans were killed in Benghazi, Libya last year she asked Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) during a Senate hearing, “What difference, at this point, does it make?” The ad also showcases the emotional response from one of the so-called Benghazi “whistleblowers,” who said to the same Senate panel, “what happened prior, during and after the attack matters.”
The ad urges Republicans to “stop media bias” and sign a petition to support RNC chairman Reince Priebus’ threats to prevent CNN and NBC from hosting GOP debates in 2016 if the projects move forward. Of course, Priebus’ ultimatum and the ad supporting it assume the films will whitewash aspects of Clinton’s career like her role in the Benghazi affair. But if the films choose to include this increasingly pivotal moment in Clinton’s career, would the debates be back on?
