Obama To Fox Reporter: Do You Think A President Seeking ‘Re-Election Wants Gas Prices To Go Up Higher?’
President Obama kicked off his first press conference of the year with string of questions about foreign policy. Following comments about war with Iran and military intervention in Syria, the presser turned to domestic issues when Fox News’ Ed Henry asked the president about gas prices.
Stating Obama’s concern that warmongering isn’t good for gas prices, Henry said, “Your critics will say on Capitol Hill that you want gas prices to go higher, because you have said before that will wean the American people off fossil fuels onto renewable fuels. How do you respond to that?”
Obama quipped, “Ed, just from a political perspective, do you think the President of the United States going into re-election wants gas prices to go up higher? Is there anybody here who thinks that makes a lot of sense?”
The “bottom line with respect to gas prices,” he said, is that he wants lower prices because the rise in cost is hurting families — and because “it’s not good for the overall economy.”
