Fox’s Megyn Kelly Has A Problem With ‘Coronal Mass Ejection’

video

Sometimes being a news anchor is hard. I mean, you have to say a lot of tough stuff on live television. Seriously. You try to pronounce the names of random Middle Eastern dictators knowing that millions of people are watching you. And, in addition to mass-murderers’ multi-syllabic monickers, there’s also science stuff to worry about. Take for example Megyn Kelly’s struggle today with the term “Coronal Mass Ejection,” which is a burst of charged particles and magnetic fields. Unlike us bloggers, Kelly can’t just copy and paste the darn thing, so she had to say it out loud.

As she explained to Trace Gallagher, there was something about saying it that made her feel…weird.

We have time for this,  but not to debate Andrew Sullivan (who has a right to defend himself).

Another professional moment by Megyn Kelly!!

  • http://mediamatters.org/ Leedog

She’s too afraid to back up her attack on Sullivan!!

Typical “anchorhumans” failing to give the full story.  OK, it happens elsewhere, but especially on Fox.  Here’s the deal:  the Earth has an immense molten metal core that rotates along with the planet, thus setting up a terrestrial magnetic field that protects us from CME’s as well as cosmic rays elsewhere in the Galaxy.  The “anchorhumans: above were content to blather about the HORRIBLE effects the CME could produce because they can’t help themselves from sensationalizing the phenomenon. Oh, and a humorous sidebar:  a planet MUST have such a core if it’s going to support life (for example Mars doesn’t).  Now some Mormons believe that after they die, they will become gods of their own planet!  Wouldn’t it be ironic if after Mitt Romney passes on, he were to become a god of a planet WITH a core, while on Earth he never had one?

Sounds a bit naughty, doesn’t it?

He does . His blog is called The Daily Dish. He is free to whine every day there if he chooses.

I understand that “Trig Truther’s ” consider it a must read.

I agree they should not avoid Sullivan but – holy moley, man – that “coronal mass ejection” derives from the force equivalent of MORE THAN 300 HUNDRED MILLION of the most powerful nuclear explosions we miniscules can make on this tiny blue planet. That’s HIroshima times 300,000,000. That’s …. BIG. And yes, it’s news.

Saw a guy outside a bar doing this last night after some beers…..

  • The Real Royal Emperor

    I should think her outraged.

    She usually is.

Kelly is not a ‘news anchor’. That’s not what Fox does.

  • Pablo

    Andrew Sullivan is a lunatic.

Come on, Megyn is a delight, and this was funny.

  • The Real Royal Emperor

But she is so mean-spirited so often.

  • Centrist79

    Megyn sounds horny.

Mars doesn’t have a core?  News to me.  You may want to tell NASA so they can tell Opportunity to stop looking for core movement as a result of orbital motion during this Martian winter.

  • Jonathan Cantor

No he actually should be in studio, considering its just immature to attack someone especially when they cannot defend themselves.

  • Jonathan Cantor

Actually I just ignore that section, but again if someone wanted to attack your reputation (which is clearly important) then I think you reserve the right to defend yourself.

  • Jonathan Cantor

Pablo, again if someone in the media, any media cared what you said and trashed you, I think you would want to defend yourself in person. Your basically just attacking the man, or his views. Your only go to counter is the trig thing, which I agree is stupid. The fundamental issue is a network should allow an individual to voice their own opinion on an article they wrote.

  • Pablo

The Trig thing is just half of it, but it is enough all by itself. It certainly qualifies him as a lunatic. But then you add his insistence that he’s a conservative and combine it with his fervent admiration for Obama, and it just doesn’t make any sense. It’s like his being a gay married Catholic. The man has very serious issues.

….It tripped very easily off her tongue, except the supposed coy school girl blush afterwards!

So you’re saying  that if a person person feels slighted by what an on air personality says, than the network owes the offended party air time to to rebut what the host may have said .
So if Ed Schultz were to go on a rant, MSNBC then owes the target of that rant air time .
    This is your position ?
    *snicker*

  • Jonathan Cantor

No its his actual article. Generally thats the case. When you are commenting on an article, you bring the author on, or they reserve the right to defend it on your program. Though I don’t see this being an actual requirement by the FTC, there are similar requirements for (a) political positions, and (b) political parties. So my question is why an author/blogger is not given the same right. Also I’m not sure what Ed Shultz has to do with this, I don’t really (a) like him, (b) watch him  or (c) see how my comment can be turned around into something about cable news. This is about journalism. Sullivan was attacked for his article and he has a right to respond. Finally why is it so hard for her to bring Sullivan on. She can bring up the Trig stories and discredit him. I just want to see Sullivan be able to debate, her which is a right he should be entitled to. Its petty to attack someone and run away.

Also how old are you that you write “*snicker*”. Seriously act like an adult.

  • Jonathan Cantor

Sullivan has an extreme position on some subjects. Lots of people do. I bet if I needed to I could find another Fox News broadcast with an extremer position (same for CNN, MSNBC) I could. The point being the person that holds that position was allowed to (a) defend themselves or (b) propose their argument.  This is not an indictment on Fox News, I just think a journalist (you say hack/ blogger) has the right to respond to a criticism of their own article. If I am wrong, thats fine but I would like an actual journalist to state why.

Also I’m not sure how much you read Newsweek but they do have some conservative columnists who do slam Mr. Obama every week. Which is their journalistic right. If these articles were spoken about their authors should be brought on to discuss them.

Pablo first you act like an expert on research studies (which you clearly are not -NASA example), now your an expert on journalism. What do you for a living really. I am dieing to know. I can stand on my background for the former (research – 6 years now), though I am not as well versed on the latter (journalism). I do have some friends in the field who I ask about these issues before I comment on them . Hence why I am on this forum asking why Megyn is allowed to criticize an absent target.

Also I won’t hold my breath that you cop to your actual occupation, because you will loose legitimacy…GUARANTEED.

It made Megyn uncomfortable only because it sounds like it is something produced during sex – Coronal Mass Ejection!

  • Anonymous

Yes, I wonder if Megyn has ever produced one with her man?

Well, FOX head Roger Ailes is on record saying he hires female commentators primarily  due their supposed ‘hotness.” Those with the ability to professional newscasters or understand science on a third grade level need not apply.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_45S32GWGDRUJIL6E2U4HOZW4BM Bob

of course, the typical FOX viewer thinks the sun is carried through the earth’s sky on the hands of angels through the day, before it goes to sleep every night just past that hillside over yonder.

According to my sources including Bob Berman’s recent book. “The Sun’s Heartbeat”, Mars’s core has lost a high percentage of its metallic content in one way or another so it doesn’t protect the planet any more, assuming it did so in the past.
