Christine Quinn and Rick Santorum Clash Over Border Funds: ‘No Room Left to Lie on This Show’ ‘Cause You Took it All

Former New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum duked it out Thursday night in a heated debate over the government shutdown, and border security funds.

In a heated tussle on Cuomo Prime Time, Santorum argued that — contrary to host’s Chris Cuomo‘s claims — Congressional Democrats did not offer $25 billion on border security including funds for a barrier.

“Can we stop on this $25 billion, Chris, ’cause you throw this up at me all the time,” Santorum said. “You know the difference between an authorization and an appropriation, do you not? And if you don’t, I’ll be happy to educate your viewers.”

“Next time,” Cuomo shot back.

“An authorization is that we say in legislation that this amount of money can be spent on this,” Santorum replied. “None of it is going to be spent until there’s an appropriation.”

He added, “When you say there’s $25 billion on the table, that’s simply not true, Chris. Not a penny was appropriated.”

Shortly after, Quinn jumped in.

“You’re playing on the semantics of appropriations,” she said.

“It’s not semantics!” Santorum said — interjecting.

“Stop it, Rick!” Quinn replied.

“You stop it!” The senator said. “Quit lying!”

“There is no room left to lie on this show ’cause you’ve taken it all,” Quinn said.
