Jon Stewart May Have Influenced a Dem House Vote Today

Jon Stewart is an influential person, but can he actually sway House votes? Well, according to a new report by Bloomberg’s Dave Weigel, actually yes.

A bit of background first: Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth is pregnant and could not be in D.C. to vote in the House Democratic elections for caucus leadership. She asked Nancy Pelosi if she could vote by proxy and Pelosi said no. And there just so happened to be the little snag that Duckworth had backed New Jersey’s Frank Pallone over Pelosi’s choice of fellow Californian Anna Eshoo for the ranking member seat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

On last night’s Daily Show, Stewart really went after Pelosi for what he deemed a “politically craven” move, especially coming from someone who’s seen as a big champion of women.

Today Democrats held the vote for that ranking membership, and as Weigel reported, not only did Pallone win over Eshoo, but Stewart may have actually contributed to that:
