Bill Clinton On Dick Cheney’s Comments Praising Hillary: He ‘Knew That It Might Cause A Little Trouble’
The two headline guests on Face the Nation today were Bill Clinton and Dick Cheney, and while the two men did not appear together on screen, Clinton was given the chance to respond to recent compliments the former vice president gave to his wife Hillary Clinton, suggesting the comments were politically motivated.
Clinton’s first impulse was to laugh at how complimentary Cheney’s words were, especially when Bob Schieffer read Cheney’s statement about the secretary of state being a stronger candidate than President Obama. Clinton agreed that his wife has done a good job and he always welcomes praise for her, but suspected Cheney might be playing a political game with his remarks.
“I… have a high regard for Vice President Cheney’s political skills, and I think one of those great skills is sewing dischord among the opposition. So I think he’s right that she’s done a heck of a good job, but she is a member of this administration and committed to doing it and I think he, by saying something nice about her in the way he did it, knew that it might cause a little trouble.”
