Chris Cuomo had an amusing exchange with Senators Mike Rounds and Angus King on Tuesday when he tried to get to the bottom of who broke Susan Collins‘ glass elephant.
As the senate fought over the government shutdown over the past few days, multiple news sources reported that Collins invited several of her colleagues to her office at one point for a bipartisan negotiation. The Republican senator from Maine tried to keep the meeting orderly by bringing out a “talking stick” and enforcing a rule that the only lawmaker allowed to talk had to be in possession of the stick.
Things went wrong, however, after Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) reportedly threw the stick at Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) in an apparent fit of rage after he was interrupted, per Politico. Unfortunately, the stick ended up hitting a glass elephant Collins had on her shelf, and it reportedly got chipped.
When Rounds and King appeared on CNN to talk about the short-term bill to reopen the government, Cuomo jokingly grilled them on what they knew about Collins’ broken decoration.
“Who threw the stick,” Cuomo demanded.
King wouldn’t say who did it, but he did say that senators might want to try passing around a Nerfball next time.
