Bill O’Reilly Claims Slate Magazine Is ‘Run By A Seven-Year-Old’

Bill O’Reilly is no stranger to making enemies, but this one seemed a little egregious, even for him: during his weekly news quiz segment with Fox News personalities Steve Doocy and Martha MacCallum last night, O’Reilly accused the online magazine Slate of perpetuating lies about Connnecticut Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal‘s swimming skills, and then, that they are “run by a seven-year-old.”

It’s a strange and completely random fight to pick on O’Reilly’s part, especially since the magazine isn’t all that ideologically far from him has been mocked for its contrarian ways – just like O’Reilly. From his tone (he also called it “that Slate thing, on the internet”), it sounded like he would normally just call something he regarded on the same level as the site to be just “dopey,” but highlighting what he saw as immature rather than just careless makes it sting all that much more. Doocy, who didn’t seem to know what O’Reilly was talking about, replied to the quip, “sounds reliable.”

The segment, from last night’s O’Reilly Factor, below:

    Frances,
Bill was trying to deflect the blame for that one off of Blumenthal and onto the pulication that published the untruth. Stop trying to make it about Bill trying ot start something with Slate. I mean come on, are you really not bright enough to see what Bill was doing or do you have some kind of bash Fox quota you guys have to meet everyday.

I’d like to see him run it.

Does the author of this piece have any life experience, any humor experience, or able to appreciate sarcastic comments. Between Doocy and Martel, it’s easy to see who REALLY doesn’t know what O’reilly was talking about. This piece could have been written by a seven year old.

It rather disgusts me when O’Reilly talks about things of this sort. It is too PeeWee Hermanesque.

What is the support for this statement?

    Here’s Slate’s wiki definition:

Slate is an English-language online current affairs and culture magazine created in 1996 by former New Republic editor Michael Kinsley, initially under the ownership of Microsoft, as part of MSN. On December 21, 2004, it was purchased by the Washington Post Company. Since June 4, 2008, Slate has been managed by The Slate Group, an online publishing entity created by the Washington Post Company to develop and manage web-only magazines. [continued]

And here’s Slate’s editorial wiki definition:

Slate’s focus and editorial slant is politically liberal, as seen in choice of columnists, choice of and position on topics, and featured cartoon, Doonesbury. During the 2004 U.S. presidential campaign, a significant majority of staff and contributors supported Democratic challenger John Kerry, and in 2008, Slate staff overwhelmingly favored Democrat Barack Obama.

So what are you talking about?

  • The Real Royal King

INB: When we call the US a liberal democracy, we put ourselves in league with other Western nations and India in which politcal leaders are elected by the people. At least, theoretically. The US Electoral College and the UK systems of electing district representatives who then elect the leader, make the two nations less a liberal democracy that France, Germany, the Netherlands, India &c, but the label still holds. I’m sorry in your effort to turn everything into a political ideological argument that you belittle our liberal democracy.

What in the heck are you talking about, King?

  • Nachi

Naturally, this would tend to upset a dull-normal five-year-old.

    @Frances

I’ve stopped taking you, and your writings, seriously. This is the second time in which you’ve made a story out of nothing.

What a joke you are Frances- and a BAD one.
