On Monday morning’s Fox and Friends, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney let out another one of those “I’m running for office, for Pete’s sake!” bursts of honesty which, like a burlesque revue at a leper colony, are revealing, but not in a good way. Asked if his father’s Mexican birthplace is helping him with Florida’s Hispanic community, Romney replied “You know, I wish I could claim that I’m Hispanic…”

A new poll out from Florida shows Mitt Romney with a 15-point lead over Newt Gingrich, and on ABC’s This Week today, Jake Tapper asked how Gingrich’s Florida numbers will end up impacting the rest of the race. George Will didn’t mince words, declaring right out that Gingrich does not have time on his side, and the more time he has, the more he talks, and the more he talks, the more he makes somewhat divisive remarks.

The newest story out of the Republican primary race for the presidency is that a civil war has broken out between establishment Republicans who favor Mitt Romney and conservative activists who are lining up behind Newt Gingrich. One of the most powerful lines of attack against Gingrich is that he’s unelectable against President Obama, but there are doubts among Republicans and conservatives that Romney is that much more electable in the general election.

Rachel Maddow has spent much of her show trying to book Republicans to come on and debate her about various issues, but she has had quite a bit of trouble– moreso after her contentious 2010 interview with then senatorial candidate Rand Paul. This week, however, she received what she called a “glimmer of hope” from the unlikeliest of people: Laura Ingraham, who told Virginia governor Bob McDonnell that she would love to see more Republicans talk to Maddow, and if not convince her of their ideology, at least spread the word.

Last week, I predicted that, if Ron Paul didn’t place first in Iowa, conservative bigwigs and the GOP establishment would use that as an excuse to stop talking about him until he quietly went away. However, as Paul’s support base has refused to wane and, in fact, seemed to grow, it appears that I was way off. Today on her radio show, Laura Ingraham and Sen. Jim DeMint offered a full-fledged warning to the Right about the dangers of ignoring Paul and what he stands for.

Ron Paul responded to the controversy over Monday’s incident involving CNN’s Dana Bash in an interview on The Laura Ingraham Show “What happened with CNN?” Ingraham asked. “I saw some dust-up with Dana Bash. What was that all about yesterday?” “I don’t know,” Paul responded. “It’s sort of a long story. We were having this interview, but my staff person thought that she was over-the-top concocting something, distorting the views. He got a little annoyed and he’s gotten a lot of compliments from it.”

On Thursday’s The Factor, host Bill O’Reilly looked into Rick Perry‘s recent decline in popularity. He showed a clip of Perry’s wife telling a crowd in South Carolina that her husband’s campaign had been “brutalized and eaten up and chewed up” by the press and, again, “brutalized” by his opponents… because of his faith. An interesting take given Perry is currently dealing with fallout from the fact that a pastor, Robert Jeffress, introduced him at the Values Voter Summit earlier this month by calling him a “committed follower of Christ” as opposed to Mitt Romney who, as a Mormon, belongs to a “cult.”

FoxNews.com is reporting this morning that congressional investigators looking into the failed “Fast and Furious” gun-running operation are sending a subpoena to Attorney General Eric Holder in an effort to suss out who, exactly, within the Department of Justice knew about the project and when, with a particular focus on “Holder, his chief of staff, Gary Grindler, and the head of the department’s criminal division, Lanny Breuer.”
