Bill O’Reilly Will Debate Rapper Lupe Fiasco Next Week

Bill O’Reilly‘s war on “gangsta rap” has been on hold for several years now, possibly due to the fact that “gangsta rap” as a genre has been barely hobbling along since about 2002. But O’Reilly has since found a new target in the world of hip-hop, and no, it’s not Common: rapper Lupe Fiasco is scheduled to appear on The Factor next week.

Fiasco, who caught O’Reilly’s eye due to comments on CBS News that President Obama was a “terrorist,” found out about his invite while watching The Factor this week, during which O’Reilly suggested that his people had previously reached out to Fiasco but the rapper had declined (he also noted that he was very jealous of Fiasco’s name, because The Fiasco Factor would be an awesome TV show). Via TV Newser:

Rapper Lupe Fiasco will appear on “The O’Reilly Factor” next week to discuss his controversial music, as well as his recent comment that President Obama and the U.S. government is “the biggest terrorist.”

O’Reilly called him a pinhead on his show, and said that the rapper declined to appear. Fiasco responded in a tweet:

“Whoa! I got invited to the O’reilly facter and turned it down??? Thats news to me…would NEVER turn down the opp to push billys buttons.”

This will not be the first time O’Reilly sits down with controversial musicians– two of his most notable interviews of the past decade were with Marilyn Manson and Cam’ron.

Could be better than the Charlie Rose / Snoop Dogg E . Dogg debate of 1999 .

  • The Lantern of Truth

O’Reilly . Ask him his top five favorite cop killers .

Give him the last ” Word ! ”

    But don’t be a blooter .

Bill, let rap die a natural death.

  • writer

Just saying rhymes. No singing. No playing instruments. ‘Artists’.

  • Dsiscokid

Should be interesting to say the least if BillO doesn’t interupt and let Lupe answer his questions

  • writer

Mother Goose was also an ‘artist’.

Check Lupe Fiasco out for yourselves before you lump him into “gangsta rap”

and these the same people supposely
    telling us the truth……”

Are you refering to BillO or Lupe? ;)

I wouldn’t go to a concert to hear Bill stand there and make rhymes, either.

Agreed. But BillO pushes more “Swag” (i.e.- merchandise) than Lil’ John or Jay-Z combined, so there is some common ground……

  • THE REAL ROYAL KING

Rap is going through a Rockabilly stage. It is not going to endure as its own genre, but it will be part of a combination in a new genre.

  • skyfet

Not surprised Billo made up the ‘decline’ crap.

And go on tours. I guess Mr. ‘writer’ missed the shows where Billo announced his tour (the last with BECK).

    Named it after his book.

Robert knows music . Since he’s been the principal caller at the Annual Austin Alternative Choices Square Dance for the last 52 years , he knows all genres , from Beatnik Swing to Mexican Do si do .

There’s not a single subject that skyfet doesn’t not grasp .

Skyfet, I didn’t go to Bill’s tour, either. When I shell out for a concert, I want to see some talent. Not something that any third grader learns how to do.

Yeah, there’s no music, no melody. It’s akin to yodeling which isn’t considered music. I just never understood the appeal.
And all the ‘songs’ or whatever you call them all sound the same. It’s boring as hell.

Yeah, so? He goes on a speaking tour, a lecture tour? What’s your problem? wtf does that have to do with anything? Al Gore goes on speaking tours and promotes his book and movie.

The proceeds of his merchandise go to charities. Wounded Warrior being one of them.

Now Cowboy Poetry , on the other hand …

As with playing the piano, making up rhymes takes years and years of practice.

Guess what he does with 100% of his profits from his “swag”? He donates it to charity`

I know he does and I commend him for that. The P and P merch does go to charities.
But when he hawks his books ad nauseum for over a year (“Bold, Fresh”, “Culture Warrior”, etc.) that’s a for-profit venture, which I have no problem with either.
-Perhaps it’s just his “humble disposition” that irks me.
-And his “regulate the internet”campaign he goes on from time to time.
-And when he feigns ignorance on subjects to pander to the “folks” (Not knowing who Alex Jones is as one example)
-His planted e-mail from “folks” who say his books have changed their lives!

Yet I watch BillO regularly because he does have opposing sides on his show and doesn’t take himself too seriously (at times). Go figure…

Yet I watch BillO a couple of nights a week…..

Why waste time with these silly wannabe celebrities?

I wonder if the left is going to be parading this guy, and hating on O’rielly while Bill O defends President Obama, while Lupo tries to argue that our President is a terrorist. The comments on youtube will be gold.

  • SuburbanPatriot

Just another thug gangsta rapper who will get schooled by Bill O’Reilly because Bill is an educated gentleman and Loopy Fiasco is just another thug who hangs out with 0-bow-ma Hussein and does “poetry” that is really violent and sexist propoganda. Thank you.

  • Nationman

honestly writer, you try making up clever lines that go with a beat. it really isn’t easy.

I think his comments on the president were extreme and unnecessary, but you conservatives would probably rather he be silenced by the fcc.

  • TheBiggestBrax

Why doesn’t O’Reilly debate Cornell West or Michael Eric Dyson. No, he pick’s people that will probably end up making a fool of themselves.

The interview with Manson was great. Very civil and I’m sure BIll thought he was going to get an airhead going into the interview, and it turned out to be quite informative and portrayed Manson in a good light. Not so sure the same will be said about this guy.

  • The Lantern of Truth

After hearing about this interview , Bob Schieffer decided to do a segment with his homie 50 cent .

  • ChrisNH

What’s the over-under on the number of times this ‘artist’ will blurt out the word ‘Community?’

  • writer

Yes, Nationman. Making up rhymes is rough stuff. Wait, that rhymes.

  • http://societyfordaintydamsels.wordpress.com Lynda Appell

I happen to see Lupe Fiasco on the Colbert Report and I was rather impressed with Fiasco’s cool , sincere intelligence with Stephen Colbert. Especially with Colbert’s typical how not to conduct an interview, virtually anything for a joke brusque interviewing style. I believe if Fiasco can hold his own with hilariously confrontational Colbert , O’Reilly should be a snap. I’m sure it will be far from a fiasco, the Rapper being on the show.

now do that to a beat and make every lyric you do rhyme. oh and make the lyrics flow and make them clever.

how many of your “real” artists had someone ghost write their lyrics for them?

  • writer

I’m sure many singers have others write the songs. The difference is, they then sing the songs. They don’t just speak the words.

So, you’re assuming that Lupe is not as intelligent than Billy, am I correct?

Interesting discussion….typically, rappers write their own lyrics…most pop singers essentially perform songs written by a third party of one sort or another. Bands do everything, unless they’re a singing group, in which case they’re the same as your standard pop singer. But there are a few…and I do mean A FEW out there who do write their own.

and then they have sound crews to use effects to make them sound good. In rap music they clearly use things like rhythm to add to the music meaning by your standards we’d have to completely discount percussion instruments as being musical in any sense of the word.

  • bealzebubba

The only place where they tend to be similar is in the production of the music. Rarely do you see a rapper or a pop singer who actually does anything beyond the mic. There are exceptions….John Mayer…The Roots…Lady Gaga…but they are FEW. Otherwise, comparing rappers to singers is apples and oranges. Why not compare Buddy Rich to drum machine while your at it?

  • http://none pyrope

Good music is like good candy–you throw the “rappers” away.
